    Zipped Bivvi

I think in due course..........I might go for a hooped bivvy with a side entry zip, like the Snugpak? I want to try and get to see one first........ Also like the Alpkit Elan, but that is I think too small for me?

    Zipped Bivvi

A zip like those on the OneTigris tents may obviate that?

    Zipped Bivvi

In fact, can't think why people like Alpkit don't have them fitted as standard on the Hunka bivvy????

    Modular British Army Sleep System?

Gosh yes, all over ebay. the internet and various surplus suppliers. I found some for sale in a Cambridge surplus store called the Green Barn? Also Military Mart, Go Army, Military1st, Varusteleka, Forces Uniform and Kit and others, but supplies will vary?

    Sleeping Bag Suggestion - Down.

Bearing in mind TD originally specified that expanda panels were used (as I do with my Softie 15), the Alpkit and Rab down bags will all come up tight. I was thinking along similar lines as TD awhile ago, but decided my Snugpak was a keeper....

    Modular British Army Sleep System?

Very similar. Inner light bag, zip is to the side (which, I can't remember!!), and outer thicker bag, zip is ventral

    Tent or bivvy?

I feel, tarp and bivvy is a little self defeating, and would a hooped bivvy be better if keeping weight down? I recently replaced a couple of goretex surplus bivvies with an Alpkit Hunka XL, but am also not convinced about the end access....it's such a faff. A pity there's no lightweight...

    Modular British Army Sleep System?

I do/have.......stunning value for money, I paid £60 last year for both bags (new, unused). I won't pretend it's perfect........but for the money, it's pretty amazing...............

Thank you for your reply, much appreciated. I never heard anything more from the grandson of the designer who made the original request, and have since lost his contact; so no: but thank you for your consideration.

Dutch or Danish issue sleeping bags, or.................

Way, way better in every respect, but yes heavy and bulky. Not for carrying. As Erb's says....effective (very) but old technology and the weight and bulk is the price. Compare it with a modern equivalent such as Snugpaks Softie 15 or Antarctica...........
