I have just used the Stratosphere in a wild camp. It was damp weather.....no, wet, and 4 deg.
The damp/wet weather made getting in and out a long winded process needing planning.
Despite having it (all vents) open between showers, and the back vent always open, in the morning the inside was...
Just about...... all sleeping bags will have synthetic linings, although one can get silk or pure cotton liners...or make one from an old sheet?
That aside, Snugpak do wider sleeping bags with the fixed in some, removeable in others, "expanda" panels?
I am broad and use one in my Softie15 4...
A first impressions and first useage review......
I won't repeat all the information (or too much of it) that can be found all over You Tube, but suffice it to say, that this is a side entrance hooped bivvy as opposed to top loaders which are to my mind , an unnecessary faff to get in or...
As you say, a beast of a bag, but just superb! Many modern bags would do well to follow some of the design features.........the cotton liner poppers in rather than velcro....or are there differing versions? Excellent addition.....
LK 35 on alloy 70s Karrimor frame, with removeable Viper expandable side pouches, waist belt and modded shoulder straps............
(can't insert images here...?)
I have a Snugpak Softie 15 in Extra Long and an "expanda" panel. Nice and roomy at 6'4" and 105 kg. Also the BA Modular large fits well, so I'd expect the Carinthia 4, large, to do the same?
The Hunka XL is not that roomy/wide at the top....at 6'4" it is JUST? long enough, but a faff to get in and out thereof:(
Otherwise, a good value bag.................
No, don't necessarily agree with that...Dutch army Lowe Alpine, are hugely strong, and very modern sacks are very light, like Osprey? A pack needs to fit well, first and foremost, and if you can't try it on before purchase, you could be for a load of hassle as we are all different?o_O
The thing about hooped bivvies is that they have ( weather allowing) better ventilation to reduce that issue.(certainly the Snugpak)
Personally I would only be interested in using one in clement conditions as well.........?
