Just stood up to about 10% annual rainfall in a matter of hrs.....;) tough liitle tent. Performed well above it's pay grade. Dry within, despite exposed zips. Slept well.

SS would be way too heavy.....never had an issue with genuine or repro. ally ones......and it is still heavy enough; started using instead a One Tigris titanium twig/trangia stove, lighter and fuel versatile?
What Erbs says: the Sting is a blinder of a pack and with an adjustable back height: essential in my book for any pack with serious pretensions. The British bergens whilst robust are not adjustable.................
Dutch Sting if you can get one (Or the cheaper MFH copy) is a blinder for a HD pack. Love it.
Decathlon have some good stuff too............also Osprey?

Biggest bugbear is that the back height is non adjustable......luckily it fits me well........
Have both this and the Snugpak 15 ....both bulky/heavy for backpacking, but the Army thing is versatile, cheap and surprisingly effective The Snugpak 15 is a very good winter bag........
One Tigris Smokey Hut plus mozzy interior ?
Very light, wind resistant (being tipi, though wouldn't be my first choice as a mountain tent!) very compact. Loads of room. Just a thought....................
Whilst not the lightest of packs, being military surplus it's incredibly tough......but the weight of the pack is not the b all.......the overall weight of your load and the comfort of the pack are both the b all. The Sting helps enormously by having an adjustable back to ensure a good fit...
