Maybe I should clarify my earlier comment. Just because I've not felt restricted in terms of access, doesn't mean that others feel that way and that I think 'the rules' are ok. Having said that, I dont know where the lines should be drawn in terms of land access. Clearly the fight for access to...
I had a thought which surprised me somewhat:
I've always been envious of Scotland's light to roam. My stomping grounds are the lake district, peak district and Snowdonia. So I've tried to think of examples of spots that I've wanted to roam, but haven't been able to due to restrictions - and I...
My thoughts are that demonising one side or the other doesn't help matters, and in real life, we're not so easily divisible into 'urban people' or 'country people' and so on. But we do live in a culture that encourages devisevness.
There's a common denominator to the problems afflicting the...
Hello forum. If anyone, like me, was thinking of buying the Motorola defy satellite link for sos purposes then beware. The company (bullit) that runs the satellite service it uses gas gone bust.
This is a shame as it was significantly cheaper than the Garmin in reach which seems to be the...
If you're after making a very long stick then have a look here

Or Google trekking pole extender there are quite a few things out there
I'd aspire to that.
Interesting. There was a time in our history where bad teeth was a leading (or at least significant?) cause of death, if I'm not mistaken. Presumably this coincided with trade and an increased consumption of sugar?
If you're hill walking, take two pairs of gloves. One to wear and one stuffed down inside your clothing. Then if / when the pair you're wearing get damp or cold, you can swap them.
Some kind of thin merino wool balaclava. Cotswolds sell them.
Sounds like you will be camping? If so, in addition...
Yes I can't wait. I'm making quite a few mods to the t door 4 season inner I got from Ali express. I'm adding loops at various points to correspond to the fixing points on the outer, and conversely, loops on the outer to correspond to those on the inner. I want to get the inner taut, given I'm...
Pretty excited to have discovered this:
http://liteway.equipment/a-frame-connector
Connects (and extends) two trekking poles to form an A frame structure. I intend to use this with my luxe hexpeak v4a. Wasn't cheap with postage, but it's from the Ukraine so no problems there.
Might possibly...
I wonder if too much gets made of the 'getting down wet' thing. I've had both down and synthetic bags over the years, in all sorts of conditions, but I've never once got any bag wet enough to worry about it's ability to insulate.
I currently have an oex leviathan ev 900. I bought it as it was...
@SoldierPalmer where did you fish in the lake District, if you don't mind me asking? I spent many hours spinning for trout in the north lakes in various spots, when I was young. I was highly unsuccessful but loved every minute. I had a go tying flies but never caught anything with them. Funny...
Aside from robustness, 3 season tents tend to have more mesh. One thing you could do is add a bivi bag to sleep system, if you haven't already done so, to keep any breeze off the sleeping bag.
