British Blades Forum Knife - The Coolest Knife That Never Was?

You are correct. I was far too busy causing trouble in those days :lmao: It was indeed a gift.

Hello @HorseGuy, I can but it is essentially the same as this one so it might get a little repetitive? :) And thank you for the kind words.

My On The Bench Today Thread

That weekend just gone saw me grinding a few kitchen/chef's knife blades. All 2mm stock SF100. I always find that when grinding large, flat surfaces the job is made easier by grinding an initial, hollow bevel. This is hollow at this stage. As the first pass over the flat platen shows...

Thank you. I got the WIP photos for the other forum, so shared a few here. The grinding was a steady plod, really, took about an hour I suspect, which is a long time to grind that blade, with the handle being in place though I didn't want to put any heat at all through the blade/tang. The...

My On The Bench Today Thread

Maybe not the correct forum for this one? ;) A gent on another forum has a knife in his possession, a knife he has a long history with and one with great sentimental value to him. However, it is Scandi ground, and he cannot get along with that aspect of it. So I told him to send it to me. It...

I set this up... Like this... The smaller 'wheel' you see there is the cutting wheel, the larger is a steel disc that the spine of the blade can rest against. I fit spacers between the steel wheel and cutting wheel to govern the distance from the spine of the blade to where the groove is...

I wish, I don’t have facility for that. Much more old school, they are kinda ground into place on a grinding wheel.

I had forgotten, so I had to check back; luckily, it says it in the client's brief. 5mm. I keep SF100 in 5mm, SF100 and AEB-L are all but identical. I prefer the Silver Fox as it was made in Sheffield :)

Sorry for the delay. Anything really, most grades are available in small quantities these days. What might you like, what do you want to do with the knife?

Today saw two 13" blade length 'Bowies' finally ready for handles, mirror polished (4" steak/parer for scale) and coming in at over 10" less in the blade, a small hunter utilising UK-made stainless pattern-welded steel.

This is a bonded block. As @TLM rightly says, there is zero doubt in my mind that the base material would delaminate before the joint. It might also be worth making clear that none of that will happen very easily at all, that block might last forever :)
