I use the 90 pattern all year round just zipped or not with a bivi bag. Stuff both in my Bergen. I sometime use snugpak centre zips but it’s mostly the above one

Main problem not all airlines have the same size baggage rules.

Any pack with an external frame will give the best ventilation. Just not the best comfort till you get used to them.

I use insect repellent and occasionally a head net, depending how bad the midges are. Nothing beats camping with just an army bivi bag.

Didn’t get a photo but I heard a lot of seagulls making noise looked out of the window and across to the neighbouring house on the roof was an adult heron. We live near a pond, seen a baby heron on my fence many years ago but the adult was impressive.
