    FIeld surgical kitS

My FAKs for hiking and such are usually from Boots or wherever. They're generally about a quarter of the size of a box of breakfast cereal, but the ones in the Jeep and the truck are approaching the size of a shoe box. In my case that's quite a big box. :) I've got a really tiny FAK...

Monitor 17b burner tube-(A long shot but you never know!)

Suggestion: Find a short brass bolt (or some sort of plumbing fitting with hopefully but not necessarily a hexagonal outer) which fits the thread in your stove. If it's a bolt, drill through it. Get an Optimus 96 vaporizer and cut off the threaded bit to leave a threadless vaporiser of the...

A room with a view (Potentially Photo Heavy)

    Giant hobo stove

Watch out for the smoke when you use stuff like that, some of the preservatives can give off pretty toxic fumes. You're not really supposed to burn it.

    Giant hobo stove

I like it. I did something similar with a stainless steel wastebasket that I picked up in a charity shop for a couple of quid. The steel is perforated, lots of lovely air flow. http://www.jubileegroup.co.uk/JOS/misc/fire_pit.jpg

Great price on 30lt drysack less than six quid.

That's a very kind offer, and I thank you for it. In fact I'd rather not do business with a firm which - even indirectly - relies on a deception to get customers to waive their legal rights under the Consumer Credit Regulations.

Great price on 30lt drysack less than six quid.

I kicked Paypal into touch after they stiffed me.

Great price on 30lt drysack less than six quid.

What a pity. I tried to buy something from Planetx but the credit card payment system wanted me to agree to the sneaky 'secure ID confirmation', which changes the credit terms in the banks' favour, so I declined and cancelled the order.

    Drying soaked outdoor gear

The most important thing to do with damp air is to get rid of it! You need good ventilation. There are more or less two kinds of dehumidifier. For the same drying capacity the one Mary has (hot rocks type) is a bit more expensive than the one that works like a refrigerator (heat pump type) but...

How to pick the right machete?

I'm a fan of the Tramontina machetes, there are three or four chez nous, and since you're interested in having fun and don't mind buying a tool just because you want one, I'd recommend trying one. The description you give of the clearance you have to do suggests to me that using more than one...

Email notifications have stopped for me :(

Hi Tony, Thanks again for fixing the account again. :) It's really weird how it will let me log in, and see my PMs, but not let me send any PMs or post in threads. You'd think that has to be a bug, or at least a design flaw, in vBulletin. If you can see your PMs you'd expect to be able to...

    Winter tentage

Well I suppose most double-skin tents could count as tent-within-tent designs. Oddly enough last weekend I used one for the first time in several years and I was mildly surprised by how much warmer it was than I remembered. Not that it was a cold weekend. The inner on this particular tent...

Mark Hill Knife and Real Steel Bushcraft Knife

No worries at all Kev, as I said all it needed was a good stropping. I've seen this sort of thing on other knives towards the mass-production end of the market, it's just a bit of carelessness at the sharpening stage I guess and easily rectified.
