    Plucky old lady

What a warming story! When I was driving my BSA Road Rocket (about 40 years ago) I often used to stop at Keele Services on the M6 to thaw out my hands under their hand dryers.

There is no such clause on the railways. Knives are forbidden, full stop.

opinel knife not legal in uk?

As I said, common sense sometimes prevails. But if they're having another crackdown, all bets are off. A few years ago East Midlands Trains dumped my wife and twenty other passengers in Leicester at 2AM with no alternative transport. The taxi firms variously told her there was nothing...

Moved house - ?how to change address

Hi Chris, long time no see! We miss you at Britton Wood. I wouldn't put my home address on any Website. As Steve says Tony will sort it for you if you ask him - a PM to 'Tony' on the forum, or an email to "info <at> bushcraftuk <dot> com" will reach him.

    Star Wars

I'll be getting a copy for the wife for Christmas I suppose, but only because I can't think of anything better. :)

    Hipflasks

Pete, you've got even more than I have! I think I have over a dozen, but not quite 20. They mostly contain meths or Aspen. No, I don't drink it. There are a couple with Jack Daniels in them. I do drink that. :)

opinel knife not legal in uk?

In the UK, in addition to the laws created by parliament there are also regulations which for example the railway operators can set. You are not allowed to carry a knife on railway property at all. It does not matter how long is its cutting edge, nor whether or not it locks. Sometimes the...

Wood gas stoves and fire pit when camping

I generally take a sheet of flat metal to stand the stove on, you can put that on a few logs or stones or something to keep the heat away from the ground. Don't forget that in some places open fires of all kinds are banned. You always need to check for every location.

Posting (packages and parcels) rules in the UK

An Asian at the local Post Office counter grilled me mercilessly because I'd written the return address on what he held was the wrong side of the package. I don't go there any more. Without telling me what he was doing, a Brit at the slightly less local Post Office ran my debit card through as...

Back To Nature. [Rewilding by Monbiot]

Another perceptive comment from BC. It's the same almost everywhere. Despite all the claptrap we hear from farming supporters about looking after the countryside, when all's said and done, farms, like grouse shoots, are first and foremost businesses. Businesses are run for profiit. I can...

    Parallel Firelay Advice Needed

I can't say if it was too big or not, but it's what I'd call a big fire. A group of ten or a dozen of us would have a fire of that sort of size at one of our regular meets. It would be in a permanent pit dug around six inches deep into non-flammable earth, surrounded with rocks or drying logs...

    Parallel Firelay Advice Needed

I don't know exactly where the saying came from, but I believe it was native American: We build a small fire, and the fire keeps us warm. The white man builds a large fire, and feeding the fire keeps him warm. :) :campfire: :)

    Rewilding Britian - increasing biodiversity

Well apart from being surprised by the vitriol in some of the posts here I have to say that this Monbiot bloke raises some interesting points and they do seem to me to, er, cover some ground. This one seems, er, on the money: "When essential public services are being cut, giving €55 billion a...

    Looking for a new blade

I have a few Helle knives. I really like the Odel. I like the Harding but I'm not keen on the button/strap arrangement. The Kvernstein vanished without trace when I returned it by post with a chipped pommel. Similar to the Harding for the button/strap arrangement. I have to say that the...
