What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

I bought a BS box at Tradex this year, I've not needed to use it yet but I didn't know you could fit a whole frame in the feeder. Thanks!!

What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

I tend to feed syrup over winter if needs be but I try and keep a load of honey filled brood frames to reduce the amount of sugar I feed them. I have left a super on before without the queen excluder to prevent isolation starvation but found the brood and a half a pain to manage the following...

What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

I had a look in 5 hives today, was really pleased that the two splits I did have successfully mated queens and one of them has wall to wall brood on 4 out of 6 frames, my concern is them having enough food going into the June gap. They are defiantly going to be a prolific colony and I'll be...

What beekeeping related activities did you do recently?

I have 7 hives at the moment in north Wiltshire. I was up to 20 odd last year but moved out of a rented cottage on a farm to buy our first house so I had to reduce down a bit. I use to keep bees in my early teens as I had taken an interest from my grandfather who was a beekeeper, not that we...

    beeswax waterproofing

No I haven't yet. I was going to have a look through my bees then start a thread with some pics but I've not been able to get to my apiary yet. I'm hoping to get there tomorrow. Please do start a thread and I'll contribute.

Wanted: Long ferro inset into antler

I guess when you break it down it's not that bad a price really. Say £15 for the materials and 4 hours labour, that's a low hourly rate for a skilled craftsman (I charge £20 per hour for my trade). I agree if it wasn't made by him then I don't think as many would get sold so I do think his...

Wanted: Long ferro inset into antler

For sure, I think the rod was £10 and the rest of the stuff I had in my odds and ends box. I guess it was 3-4 hours work over a couple of evenings. Mikes stuff is a little on the pricey side for me but his work is stunning, having seen some of his crafts in person he's a very skilled crafts man...

Wanted: Long ferro inset into antler

I copied Mikes design and made my own using briar as the handle. The leather belt sheath was only my second or third leather project and it was made with only basic tools. Really happy with how it came out and it only took a few hours. This one I gave to a friend so I made another for myself and...

    beeswax waterproofing

I bet that worked well today, it was so hot here. I didn't end up visiting the apiary today, hopefully I'll get there tomorrow

    beeswax waterproofing

My wife made a load of food wraps while we've been off work and I've been tinkering making candles, polishes and hand moisturiser. Its been great having so much time off!! The wraps are brilliant, wish we had made them sooner. I know exactly what you mean, it's wonderful!! I didn't realise...

    beeswax waterproofing

I do the same, I keep my cappings separate, filter out the honey then put the whats left into a rapid feeder and give it back to the hive it came from. The bees take the honey and I'm left with powdery wax that's great for projects where you want quality clean virgin wax. This does become...

    beeswax waterproofing

It depends on the quality and colour really. Capping wax fetches a premium price as it's used in cosmetics etc. Generally for unrefined wax it's about £10 per KG. Trading in with beekeeping suppliers for outright purchase or against goods is a really poor deal so most beekeepers trade in against...

    beeswax waterproofing

I really enjoy making various types of polish, waterproofing wax and moisturiser with bees wax. As a beekeeper my self I'm always looking for new thinks to try. Whilst on lockdown I had a go at making hand dipped taper candles which were really successful. I donated a handful of them to the...

Hi Guys I'm looking for a Frost River Isle Royale Jr, I have to trade a new olive green Fjallraven Jacket 68 size small but it's defiantly more of a medium (can send dimensions). Or a Fjallraven Sarek trekking jacket in olive green size medium also as new. Thanks Ben

    Catapult for Hunting

I guess they would probably be fine, never used stones myself. Using the same shot every time takes a variable out of the equation and the less variables when hunting game the better

    Catapult for Hunting

I thought stones didn't make good ammo because the odd shape meant they didn't always shoot straight. I think the size I use is 44 cal lead shot which I cast myself.

    Shopping

This is where being a rollie smoker is a benefit... What you do is fold the Rizla into 4 rip the corner off so you end up with a hole in the middle then slide it over your finger, wipe area with finger then slide the Rizla off taking the c**p with it. Then wash hands for 20 seconds. 50 wipes in...
