    Positive news

I welcome the sentiment Chris :encourage: It feels, particularly at the moment, we are surrounded by negative news. It's nice to see a positive side to things. My news is I went to see the Chiropractor a couple of weeks ago and my back, shoulder and arm are feeling much better now.

It moved … it was hopping!' One man's search for a wild wallaby in the UK

I used to work on a country estate and the next door estate had a herd (is that the right term?) of them. As to why are they here... The same reason many foreign animals and plants ended up here - bragging rights! Something to show off when your mates come round...

Lightest high-quality jungle boots that won't beak the bank

Not much military kit is light weight! It's designed to be used by young, strong and fit individuals. It's also designed to hold up to squady use/ abuse and to allow the owner to keep doing their job. That normally means weight is lower down the priority list. It does mean however, it will...

Lightest high-quality jungle boots that won't beak the bank

Is there much difference in the weight of boots? And how much of a difference does it make in the real world? I really have no idea but would imagine most of the weight of any boot will be the sole. Therefore a leather upper verses a cordora upper (for example) would be 50 grams or whatever...

Pros and cons of Panama sole for jungle boots

I used the US jungle boots in Borneo when we went into the jungle some years ago. They worked well for us. The tread was great. I always thought it was similar to using mud terrain tyres on a vehicle - but to a lesser extent. Works better in soft material but you pay the price of reduced grip...

Linen vs Synthetic thread for leather

Is 1mm important? thread often isn't measured by diameter except as an additional spec. It's normally something like 18/3. From memory i think 18/3 is maybe a little less than 1mm but i may be wrong. Apart from personal preference i think natural is generally better to match the natural leather...

    Kukri, Newton billhook alternative

It's interesting to see how different groups around the world have solved the same problem. clearing scrub is a world wide task and the tools from around the world are designed to work with the local environment. If it's mainly grass the blade tends to be thinner etc. Like many of us I have...

    Chuck boxes

I would look for one of the Ecoflow type packs. Bluyeti (sp) is another brand. A stand alone power bank with options for USB, 12v and 230v. Some also have cableless charging too. Charges from the cig lighter as you travel. You can then use the lower power 12v and USB with little inverter drop...
