    Can anyone sharpen my knife

Bushcraft4life, It's a crying shame you'll not be able to get to the Moot. This is exactly the sort of sharpening problem I'll be hoping to help folks overcome in my workshop there. As Chris Claycomb has said, if you can stop off "en-route" and want to meet up with me (Milton Keynes) I'll...

    Fun With Lightning

I love a good thunderstorm. The whole world seems to be charged with energy and "buzzing" :) When I was 17 I used to go up to a local spot known as "Top of the World", the highest land for many miles around, to watch any really good storms. I had driven up, parked, and wandered about 1/2 a...

Moot Sharpening Workshop / DMT Group Buy

OK folks. I met my DMT supplier at the weekend and picked up nearly £600 worth of kit from him for distribution  All those who have put their names down for stuff at the Moot will be catered for, and I'll have a few sets of the mini-hones "spare" for those who decide they want some...

    $900 Tactical Knife (Gigantosaur)

What an astonishingly priced piece of tat ! I can see no practical use for the thing whatsoever. I wouldn't even use it as a cheese knife for fear of having the thing snap due to that ridiculous hole through both blade and ricasso. As for the edge... Hell, I can knap flints to a neater edge than...

    Rust etc

My Carbon V CS Master Hunter has seen some abuse recently ( i.e. skinning and gutting half a dozen rabbits then sticking it back in my shooting bag in it's sheath covered in gore and forgetting it for 3 days. Oops! :o ) and has only just begun to show signs of discolouration. I washed the worst...

    Sharpening a crook knife

I sharpen mine with wet'n'dry wrapped around a suitably sized piece of hazel stick if I don't have my DMT Cone hone to hand. Stropping is simply a matter of wrapping a piece of leather around the same stick (I tend to use the other end of the stick, where it's thinner, to compensate for the...

    New knife set

Nice work fella! Go on... be a devil and show that you're proud of it by putting that touch mark on the FRONT where it can be seen ! ;)

Is there a timetable of events and workshops available for our perusal yet please ?

    pop studs for a sheath?

I use pop studs from Tandy (Bought through the Identity Store) and these need a setting tool which has to be bought seperately in order to do a really good job of fixing them. If you want to do more sheaths and leather work it's worth investing a couple of quid in the right kit to do it well...

    stroppy question...

The black build up on the strop is caused by the steel that you have removed from the blade(s) you've sharpened Jon. This, mixed with the residue of the compound will build up on the strop until it becomes so thick that it flakes away from the leather and leaves the surface of the strop in a...

    workshops at the summer bushmoot

As you might have already seen I have offered to run a couple of half-day workshops on Sharpening with Diamond Hones. Unfortunately the Group Buy aspect of the idea is falling somewhat short of the numbers I had hoped for and may still have to be cancelled, but I am still willing to do the...

    Micarta Tips wanted!

Hi Jed, I've just finished my own first ever micarta handle and despite what others have said about the stuff I found that I really like working it. It's tough stuff so don't expect to manage with a quick sanding. I shaped my slabs almost to the point where they were a flush fit to the edge of...

    Sharpening technique

Hi Theo, The way I tend to work on an edge depends on the type of grind of the knife. If it's a Scandi where the grinding lines will still be evident even after stropping I keep the hone travelling at right angles to the edge all the way along. This leaves a neater looking knife when it's all...

Unread thread text size and colour.

Is it possible for the difference in text between "read threads" and "unread threads" to be made more obvious please ? On the old site the unread threads were in a bold, dark text, but although they are slightly bolder text with this new format they could do with being a darker grey or...

Moot Sharpening Workshop / DMT Group Buy

With the level of discount on the offer it would definitely still be a very good deal if postage was added. I'm considering opening this offer up as a Group Buy in the traditional sense, but as I'm to be moving house in the next few weeks and have all the associated mayhem going on I don't...

Moot Sharpening Workshop / DMT Group Buy

Hi Stew, I would, but for the fact that this is to be a "Collect from me at the Moot and pay cash" affair. I'll be getting the hones on a Sale or Return basis from the supplier, but if I don't think I'm going to shift enough to make it worth both his and my effort it will turn out to be a...

    Travel washing line

Those lines with suckers are handy if you in a hotel with a tiled bathroom. The suckers stick well to the tiles and you can dry stuff overnight on them, but when I'm camping out I find that the paracord and a couple of trees approach is by far the simplest way to do the job.

    A first for me!

The only time I ever knew Old Brock to react aggressively to my presence was once in 1984 when I was involved with (stuck right in the middle of  ) the job of relocating an ancient sett that was going to be built over by the expanding city of Milton Keynes. Working for the Parks Dept...

Does this mean I can add you name to the list Sargey ? If so, what (if anything) would you like in the way of hones ? (Assuming it all goes to plan... See below ) Everyone,,, Please be aware that I have to have a respectable number of "orders" before the Group Buy element of this project will...
