Nessmuk: Woodcraft and Camping video series.

Been watching this series by Kusk Bushcraft over on YouTube and really enjoying it. Thought some others might enjoy as well. 'Welcome to the Woodcraft and Camping Series! I'll be taking an in-depth look at the writings of 'Nessmuk' and exploring the ideas of a woodsman from the 1800's.'

Responsible behaviour as the world changes.

So while the 'plebs' are banned from enjoying a campfire the real cause of wildfires still goes unchecked by the same Scottish Government. https://www.rspb.org.uk/whats-happening/news/muirburn-legislation

    Imgur blocks UK access

Indeed! I signed the petition to say don't bring digital ID in. The government has responded (quoted below) and basically said 'we are doing this no matter what you think'. Funny I don't remember it being in their manifesto at the last general election, but I suppose these things barely matter...

Responsible behaviour as the world changes.

Interesting article here on this issue. https://parkswatchscotland.co.uk/2025/09/29/fire-and-fires-one-law-for-the-landowners-another-for-the-rest-of-us/

Responsible behaviour as the world changes.

While there may have been some activities, in some places that tried to educate, to the best of my knowledge it did not become part of the curriculum and was not rolled out to every school in Scotland and every year group. Certainly my son is currently in the Scottish school system and has had...

Responsible behaviour as the world changes.

Just like the camping bans in the Trossachs this is another ban that will only affect the responsible people who are not the issue, but do next to nothing to stop those ignorant and irresponsible folk who take no care. I firmly believe that the Scottish Executive/Government missed a trick when...

    Sleeping bag liner

I have a silk liner with my down bag mostly just to try and keep it cleaner for longer. Sometimes get a wee bit trussed up in it but it's not too bad, and it's a similar size to my bag, maybe even a wee bit more generous. And sleeping in silk is nice! Was never issued a liner with my army bag...

    What did you buy today?

I do love a bum-bag but always feel slightly self-conscious wearing them. Don't know if it's bad flashbacks from the '80's or something else! Of course, the youngsters wear them these days to keep their stash in, but usually across the chest.

    Why a Swiss Army Knife.

Your reason for disregarding them is precisely why they are so popular.

In the UK that would be called 'going equipped'! :D

    Kicking the Habit

I also used the Allen Carr method (though I think it was the Easy Way book) after numerous failed attempts using gum and inhalators. This was before vapes were available. Been stopped 15 years now and don't miss it at all. I remember when I was about 18 or 19 chatting with a friends mum who had...

    Calling all Ninjas.

Just like all the other bans the only people who will be affected will be those law abiding folk who may wish to own or use the banned item. I think the USA's gun laws need looking at, but at the same time there is some truth to the old adage used over there. 'If you outlaw guns then only the...

Recommendations for decent cagoule that packs in a pocket ?

My one is mid-hip length. Tbh if a jacket is much longer I find it starts to restrict movement a bit. YMMV.

Recommendations for decent cagoule that packs in a pocket ?

Try the modern version of a pac-a-mac, a mac-in-a-sac. They do a couple of different versions. I have one of the older lightweight running ones and my son has the normal style one. Both quite happy with what we have. https://www.macinasac.com/
