Scam Warning: Account Hacking and PayPal Friends and Family

Truthfully, in all the years I have been active on the forum as a Mod, very few deals go wrong. More often it's someone taking money and not fulfilling their end of the deal, that's the issue. The Paypal G&S is the clearest, easiest to access, most accountable, and most likely to get money back...

Long Distance Walking (>4000km) + Wild Camping, Woolen Travel Over-Garment or Cloak

I don't know what age you are, but my generation was probably the last to use Barathea overcoats as standard school wear. They pre-dated the mass produced waterproof cagoules....before that there were only really heavy and very sweaty oilskins, the kind deckhands used. Barathea coats over wool...

Wild garlic at home. Home garlic?

Avoid few flowered leek too. It's very tasty, the bulbils actually pickle well, but by heavens it's prolific and it spreads anywhere one of those wee bulbils ends up.

    Room to move..

Up my loft I have two pairs of hand made oars....with leather grips, copper rivets and copper tips. My Dad gave up trying for dry weather and lifted the living room carpet instead....the house smelled like going back to school after the long Summer holidays and the Jannie had run riot with the...

    What are you growing?

If you have a south facing windowsill in a room that gets any heat, then you can grow enough salad crops to keep things going without any extra fuel bills. I have chillis growing on my Living Room windowsill right now. They sort of take up residence in late October and sit there like pot plants...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

Hah ! we had a collie/KC spaniel cross when I was little.....yeah, all the endless energy and intense focus of a collie with the utter mindless joy and enthusiasm of the spaniel.....we called that dog Lucky. Bonnie dog, absolutely no harm in him, just manic full on DOG, but ye gods the calm when...

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

When my sons were little we were puppy walkers for Guide Dogs for the Blind. The last puppy was a cross between a labrador and a curly coat retriever. Every single hair that Donna shed was sort of like this, and this size ---ΩΩΩ--- and they floated in the air. They were in everything. Drove...

Wild garlic at home. Home garlic?

At those prices you'd think we'd be up for domesticating them. Pignuts are good food. A nice crunchy like water chestnut sort of.

Wild garlic at home. Home garlic?

I can only echo what others have said, and suggest you find some pignuts and gather the seeds later on in the year, scatter those too among it :).....Mine's coming up in the gravel again, if it seeds, and I mind, I'll offer.

    Going green broke my fridge!

Cold house, no central heating, in Winter the fridge wasn't run all the time. Mothers shopped every day for groceries, butcher meat, etc., milk arrived on the doorstep and was kept in the pantry that had an open grill vent to the outdoors. Our first fridge didn't even have an icebox part....no...

    Still lots of Covid about?

Exercise beats Arthritis, is the title of a book that I bought over thirty years ago. We know that it doesn't cure it, but those gentle exercises mean that even after having Rheumatoid Arthritis for over half of my life, that every joint is still mobile, every joint is for the most part...

    Still lots of Covid about?

I'm sorry to hear that Mum isn't recovering quickly, but having said that, and having dealt with elderly relations for many years, I can truthfully say that they do recover. More slowly than they or we would like, but if they put any effort into being mobile, in being social, in being mentally...

    Going green broke my fridge!

Our local coup has a very comfortable office/staff room inside two ports-cabins....all furnished with 'too good to waste' stuff. They have containers for electronics that go to specialist recycling, and the same with old 'white goods'.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

But while the Americans may think 800' is low flying, honestly, by our standards that's pretty lofty really.

Is "preparedness" a state of mind?

I know I was working in Perthshire, and the pilot of jaguar passed less than a hundred feet from us...horizontally that was...vertically the blighter couldn't have been more than 50' up. He waved ...in all of the split second we saw him I mean. The noise was the biggest shock I think. RAF is...

Fixed wing RAF routinely 250'. They do practice lower though, I'm told -100' on known military exercise sites....and lower at sea.

    Going green broke my fridge!

When I was little our fridge was gas powered. In those days folks plugged into the gas lines just as we do with electric plugs now....sort of bayonet fitting things. Anyway, I mind my Dad complaining that the fridge burnt more gas than the cooker did.

    Going green broke my fridge!

I had a friend who kept 'all' of her food in her fridge....even cans of soup  The fridge broke as it tried to cope with the weight of a family's weekly shop. Heather had to learn what could really do with not being refrigerated, and what most definitely needed to be so. Jars of...
