    Shemagh Wearing

For the 'square shemaghs: 1. Fold material diagonally, so it is a triangle in shape. 2. Put on head, longest side across your forehead, with other point down your back. 3. The locals secure theirs with a purpose made 'ring'- elastic works just as well. 4. Et voila! You can now tuck...

    Survival Kit Tins or Containers

Thanks Shadow Walker.. I'm not sure that being chased thru the woods by a 'hunter force' is the chief concern of most normal people, so you may be getting away from the facts... all I'm saying is consider whether you actually NEED a survival tin, or, as Adi shows, can your needs be better...

    Survival Kit Tins or Containers

Hmm... Shadow Walker... methinks you have blown cover- Oxford... military survival priorities... hunter force. FREAK? Hope the bottom inspectors aren't reading this! Anyway, all very interesting, but how many people get chased thru the woods by a hunter force on their weekends off? :D...

    Survival Kit Tins or Containers

Got to ask yourself, what do you need it for? In my previous job, space was paramount so I carried a small tin (tobacco sized) sealed with tape. In it was stuff that addressed, loosely, the priorities of survival, stuff like asprin, safety pins, candle, lighter, razor blade, torch and puri...

    EBAY KIT. yes or no?

Dudes, a word of warning from e-bay land: my missus has just been ripped off to the tune of £145 by some dodgy geezer in Bradford. Sent her an item not even remotely resembling the one on the sales site, and the e-bay claims system is tortuously slow, and only refunds up to £105. You have...

    Bushcraft expeditions competition poll

Got to be the arctic for me.... desert is just too depressing, the only skills to learn are how to sweat and not swat flies. Jungle would be sweet too, mind, especially with all the ikea bamboo furniture to make...

    Ray Mears Smock/Cagoule

Think you've hit the nail on the head, there. It's all well and good having gucci tops with otters and squirrels all over them, but if you only go into the bush once in a blue moon (and the fact you can afford 'brands' probably suggests you have to work all hours God sends) then what's the...

    Ray mear's trousers

Big thump, liggers! :) :) :) they would be just the job, but I don't think they would be great after somenone else had worn them... :( Ullefrote is the best though, eh? :D

    Which Underpants?

Guess it depends what you need them for. If it's to keep your sweets warm in the arctic, then go for wool (the non-itchy kind). If it's for fire-proofing, cotton every time, but make sure they are only cotton. A friend of mine had his best m&s 'cotton' undercrackers on when he was involved in...

    Ray mear's trousers

Does anyone know whether Ray sells second hand kit? You know, money off for soiled trousers and so on? :)

    Tracking

Wow. Which part of Iraq was that then? Better to have tracked by stealth then call a whirly bird, eh?

    Cornish meet-up???

Cornish meet-up? Looking for Smarties thread ref the Cornish meet-up next year, but seems to have vanished! Can anyone shed some light? Seemed an excellent idea... shame... :(

Does smart wool really not itch?

Got to say, the Ullefrote stuff is tip-top. Got given a set by a bloke with nice hair, and used it on a survival course in Norway. Tried it with undercrackers on first because I worried about the itch factor- what-a-mistake-a-to-make-a. The thermals don't itch at all, but the cotton...
