Yeah, most of what they sell is their own gear, that's why their prices are reasonable. They do carry some brand names, but most of their own stuff is comparable or better than a brand name equivalent, at a lower price. As for weather, I've been wearing a light jacket for the last few days...

Also, if you're in a pub, try Creemore Springs Premium Lager. Sleeman's Original Draft or Honey Brown will do if they don't have Creemore. Molson and Labatt have convinced the Canadian beer-drinking public that they want generic bland tasting beer, but there are lots of other options for those...

    Canada trip

There used to be a Hooters right around the corner from me, at Yonge & Eglinton, but it moved out to the suburbs somewhere and was replaced by yet another trendy overpriced restaurant. Bass Pro shops is hard to miss, as its got an exit off highway 400 named for it. Interesting place to...

    Walking stick making

We have a store called Lee Valley in Toronto that sells specialized hardware like that. And it doesn't look like you need a minimum order. Their website says they ship internationally, so that probably includes Britain. Don't know what shipping would cost, though...

    Living Roofs

Never saw any bushcrafters nesting on the roof, but maybe the Greater Canadian Toque-wearing Bushcrafter needs somewhere a bit more protected from the elements and marauding polar bears. The walk to the lake, however, is quite manageable for us.

I also live in Toronto, but unfortunately I don't get out into the wilderness much. More of an armchair bushcrafter at the moment. Maybe next summer...

    Living Roofs

One of our outfitter-type stores in downtown Toronto, MEC, has a living roof, among other environmentally friendly practices. A few years ago they had a family of ducks nesting on the roof. Don't know what happened to them, though, it's a long walk to the lake...

    Dollars and Pounds

    Yes, definitely an odd question, but I just realized after reading many posts here and on BB that I don't have your pound sign and wondered where they put it on your keyboards. My keyboard is as follows: Upper case: ~ ! @ # $ % ^ & * ( ) _ + Lower case: ` 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - =...

    Dollars and Pounds

No, no pound sign. Our 3 has a # on it. Which we also call the pound key, but I always though it was the weight kind of pound. And how do you make the # sign?

Is your pound (money) sign on your 4 key, like our $ sign?

    US and Canada?

I usually just call it camping. Not sure if it's quite the same thing, though. Doesn't have the same connotations of primitive skills and tools. And we get to carry bigger knives. I think the main difference between survival and bushcraft is that one is voluntary and the other is not...

    Canadian kit

It looks like Leatherman tools are a lot cheaper in Canada, too. I don't like to be without mine. LeBaron's probably the best place for them, too.

You should definitely check out MEC, I especially recommend their softshell jackets as a pretty useful piece of outdoor gear. I also agree with Doc on the Grohmann knife, the best prices I've found are at LeBaron: http://www.lebaron.ca/pdf_files_sp07/outdoor/grohmann_wyoming.pdf Their prices...
