    Just to update...I decided to go for an alpkit hunka bivi bag (thanks for pointing me in that direction intertidal). £30 including postage and should suit my needs fine. I don't know why I didn't really think about a bivi bag in the first place as an extra insulation layer/sleeping bag...

    Today I went to the Crannog Centre and .....

    Only moving water I've been on is the sea in my kayak which is a completely different kettle of fish! I don't know any open boaters yet so think I might do a course first to be on the safe side.
