Make a shed from wood in woodland or buy cheap wooden one?

A small yurt, if no snow it can be very light weight, probably have to tie it down to prevent wind blowover. Can be done with just plastic cover or tarpaulin or what ever.

    Night Owls....

Almost anyone in the summer above the arctic circle who is not tied down to the clock is a night owl if we go by the clock. No clear sleep/wake cycle unless one wants to. Once the night returns it is much easier to follow the "normal" routine.

    Essential life saving skills.

Certainly, presently it is a very good modern fighting system with some options in aggressiveness. Just meant that it was not a SOE system with different origin.

    Essential life saving skills.

If I remember correctly KM has it's roots in pre war Czech Jewish community not as a fighting system but self defence. Presently it has split into various siblings that vary a lot in their goals, some not so peaceful.

    Essential life saving skills.

Any combatives system from war time is probably going to be slightly on the rough side for the pseudo peaceful society of today. The "art" part in many martial arts should be translated as "skill" as I understand the medieval origins of the usage. As a first guess there are better starting...

Make a shed from wood in woodland or buy cheap wooden one?

There exist several models of hot dip galvanized steel "screws" that one puts into ground for a foundation. They are mainly used in gravel but some work in finer grades too. They are meant for fairly light weight structures. On suitable ground it takes 15 min for one. They are not subject to...

    Essential life saving skills.

The most critical one is thinking, assessing the situation and only after some thought take the action. That is difficult to teach and takes some time. There are cases when reflexive action is necessary but so far I at least have avoided those.

    Essential life saving skills.

"If in trouble or doubt run around in circles scream and shout", read that somewhere. It works every now and then. We have a society (Finland) where every 15th man has been trained as squad leader every 40th as platoon leader. Means that they have some kind of training in making decisions...

What do you want to have on Bushcraft UK?

John Fenna's idea of a collection of short notes, pics or videos on doing some basic (or not so basic) things in bushcraft probably would be a good thing. In fact there would be quite a collection of such if somebody had the time to go through all the existing ones in the forums and put them...

Most unusual knife design you own?

Twenty years ago bought a date cutting knife in Tunisia. A slightly sickle shaped toothed affair, made out of rebar. Very sharp as new but would not hold the edge for long. Apparently shipped to many customers in lots of 20 to 50. I watched when it was made and the blacksmith who forged it was...

So what do you all drink these days?

When trekking something stronger, last time rum before that brandy. Dark beer preferably, I do like continental abbey ones. Green tea or a few times the Greek mountain tea (Sideritis scardica). Careful with those geminates, it is "Minttu" and yes it means "mint".

Finished Damascus And Stag Bushcraft Knife

Why to copy? That knife looks good and practical! My personal preference is slightly different on a few details but I see nothing wrong as it is.

    So.. what happened...

A boiling kettle is sometimes a reason for fairly fast action. ;)

    Wool anoranks?

Leka has a "blanket anorak" which as I understand is woolen.

    So.. what happened...

Exactly and a lot of things have not actually changed, if you want a hot meal or tea you still need a way to heat water (and no, I don't use those bloody self heating packs) so you need a stove of some kind, a lot more to chose from nowadays but still there is the fire that has to be started...

    So.. what happened...

A slight side track but not down hole: It is a pity that fewer and fewer people learn things like this from elder generation. My grandfathers belonged to a generation when the Finnish "erä" (a concept that does not translate well, includes hunting, fishing, trekking and generally surviving)...

    Emergency Preparedness Guides

They have very few alternatives nowadays when Putlin controls everything. Computer savvy people in ST. Petersburg and Moscow have access to other than Muscovite information, how much their possible cynicality helps is a good question. Oh yes they are blind by definition, if not why surprising...

    Emergency Preparedness Guides

Exactly where? Are you claiming that they did not steal their name from Ukrainians? Also being vassals to the Golden Horde for a quarter millennia did not really civilize them in any way. For once you are correct, I consider looking at things in a murderous paranoic way crazy and refuse to do so.

    Woodland Custodianship

Have about finished my twice a year spruce crusade. Which is good as we have something of a snow storm just now.
