In my limited use of tiger thread I'd say because it's super strong . When I used linen thread I found it frayed and on occasion broke and that was with bees wax on too, probably through me doing something wrong no doubt but I changed to nylon not long after starting doing a bit of leather work...

Just started using the Tiger thread and so far think it's great.... that's after first using linen then nylon thread . Quite hard to get hold of but if you would like to try it out Leodis Leather on Etsy sells 20m hanks for a fiver and has a lot of different colours and thicknesses to choose...

Not too hard to make your own lid for whatever cup you end up with . Like John I made a wooden former and just used a hammer to beat an edge on to sheet metal around it then screw or rivet on a handle... job done :) . I was inspired by the lids Warthog made here and so far have made lids for...

Bought one from those guys on E-Bay a few weeks back. Had a wee problem with the first one they sent , welded repair that had cracks in, they very quickly sent a replacement ..good service. I also first saw that type being used by Ray Mears in a tracks episode ,the one with the earth oven iirc...
