Another way to go is to try a Fuji X series camera. I have used one myself though.
If are into mono try a Leica monochrome but is not a cheep option.
Remember a flappy mirror is not necessary.

What do you want to photograph?
It will be better than a phone using the longer focal lengths (more zoomed in)it is not going be much better than a phone at wide angle stuff.

I would love to see it better.
Can you retake the photos and either clean the lens or keep your finger (or whatever is obscuring it) away from so it doesn't cover the lens
What type of leather have you used?
Did you mark and make all the holes before starting stitching?
Are you using a blunt needle
It looks like it was soft a pre dyed which may be why the needle is going through the wrong place.
PM me your email address and I can send you a good tutorial
Do you wax the thread and do you have a stitch wheel?
Do you use an awl or drill for your stitch holes.
The other issue can be if you have long nails it marks the leather.

Oh yeah should added a link to the thread of the Scouts knives. We got the idea from Danish Scouts but Mors Kochanski talks a knife repair in this way and he recommends a stick for this reason I recall
https://bushcraftuk.com/community/threads/scouts-knife-making.152976/
A little knife made with a greenwood handle. A small branch about 40mm in diameter cut an hour or so before carving to shape with the frost 106 in shot. No glue used the wood shrinks onto the tang and only a small was drilled and the tang forced into the wood. The little knife is nice to use and...
Most of the he moulded plastic knives have tangs like that the wooden handle knives like the No1 have a tang as long as the handle
I am not sure about the companion
This failed due to a an air bubble in the handle and it was probably hit on the handle when battening
Broken Mora handle and reground blade by Alf Branch, on Flickr
When you baton it through a 5 inch diameter log it takes some hammer for a knife handle that is much the same as one on a 4 inch blade I could also stick a handle on this in the woods but not a full tang blade
This stick tang has been used for battoning wood almost exclusively for seven years by Scouts so far it has survived

Very nice knife let down just a little by an untidy sheath but it looks like a good usable sheath
You may be able to burnish the marks of the leather still though
