    Rule of Three

The three second thing.. I think bit goes a bit deeper: 1) people who are just less likely to panic 2) people who can be trained to follow a response 3) people who will always revert to instinct

any suggestions for a decent tent?

Might be worth looking at Vango as a brand. They do turn up cheap on eBay. I’ve just been considering Banshee 300’s to replace current DofE ones but they do some compact single person tents.

    No heat instant/emergency food?

I’ve seen self heating smart mugs for £30 and up. I believe they will do 55c not sure what battery life is like. I’ve never tried the Adventure Nutrition alu heating elements. They seem like a more user friendly version of the MRE heater.

    No heat instant/emergency food?

Fortunately technology has moved on and the engineers got this covered. The heating system is now self propelled to save weight.

    Affordable pyramid tents?

What are your sewing skills like? A basic pyramid isn't to hard to do from a couple of plash palatkas or such as donor materiel. You can buy mesh inners with a plastic floor pretty cheap.

Liars or Trolls? Wrong or deliberately wrong...

Some of the click bait and scam stuff out there has deliberate errors to filter out those who will see through it. The idea that the poor spelling and punctuation in emails from Nigerian Princelings as measures to benefit the scammers are sadly, inspired. AI is quite good enough to huxter...

    What’s burrowing under my shed?

If you find any course ginger hairs caught in the wood it’s probably Franky Boyle. He’s not as big as he looks on TV. And there’s the smell, mating season is upon us.

Is a psk really needed in the UK?

Depends on the supermarket! Well most of them are a survival kit but some might require a stab vest to negotiate in one piece. ;)

purpose of this configuration in daypacks?

Looks like someone took a medic bag and used it for a portable office or school bag. I can see this being popular for urban carry. I’d be worried about pick pockets though!

    Sextant

Thank you Seagull for waffling on! Sadly my shipboard navigation of late has been limited to leaning around the skipper and peering hopefully at the chart plotter and sounder trying to spot a u-boat and such! I’ve always been curious about land use of sextants and similar. I had few...
