The two lakes is probably Skallvatnet and Holmvatnet then? The flood plain will be marsh and peat bog mainly.

    Norwegian wild edibles?

Just see what edibles there are in britain and subtract 90 percent of them and there you have it. To be more serious; the question is where in Norway do you seek information on edibles. It is a huge difference between the south of the country and the north were I live. There is however an ounce...

What do you like to read ???

Lately I`ve read some of Clive Cusslers books (Trojan odysse and Arctic drift). I`ve also began to read the latest by Jean Auel, but it was boring and I`ve not finished it yet. The latest book read was by Paul Hoffman, The last four things. I also read a lot of history books, and of course...

    Sammi Article

Just for the record; the sami "capital", where they have their parliament, is Karasjok, not Kautokeino. I wonder if this article is a office piece written in London rather than in Finmark.

Plans of making a lavoo from tarpaulin, rope and axe

Your tarp is plenty big enough for a self made lavvu. Fire should not be an issue as long as you don`t burn spruce wood. I have a Venor lavvu (poly/cotton) and use open fire in it regularely. I have no problem with sparks.

    Felt Boots?

The "Nesnalobben" is actually good footwear for cold weather. Below is a picture taken on a lake at Saltfjellet. The shoes functioned very good, although the temperature was only about -11 degrees celsius. Just make sure they are big enough to move your feet inside, even with heavy wool socks...

    Norway v's German Backpacks

Bumblers slight distaste for it aside; it is bomb proof, and a tad bigger than the german backpack. As said several times before in many posts, it is not a comfortable pack with heavy loads. I use it as a day pack and sometimes on over night trips.

Excellent report from Jokkmokk. Altough I don`t live far away from the place I`ve never been there. Seeing this write up and pics definately sets it on my "places to visit" list.

    Muurikka cookwear camping range:

I have the small frying pan. Good piece of kit. But mine was not from Muurikka. I think the brand was UPO or UCO.

    Surplus Fjellduken?

Jerven themselves states that the the army has used the Fjellduken about 20 years, not 30 years. The reason there are no surplus ones is that they are primarely issued to specialists and there are not that many of them (not many soldiers at all nowadays). "Ordinary" soldiers may buy them...

    Norwegian 20ltr day pack

It is for your coat (feltkappe). The ruck is an old assault pack (stridssekk). Usually it contained the mess kit, extra ammo, two tent poles, 3 tent pegs, 5 meter rope, a little food and your sweater. The diamond shaped tent "half" was rolled together and fastened over the pack. When the...

    Youngsters

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" Plato, 4th Century BC Nothing new under the sun it seems:)

Norway axe maker - Mustad ???

Mustad (todays largest manufacturers of fish hooks) did make axes earlier. Together with ovens,nails/screws, margerine!!.......etc. The company was established in 1832 in Gjøvik, Norway. They had factories all over Europe before WWII, but nowadays all production is moved to the far east. The...
