The Norwegian Military Tent Sheet System KNAPPETELT

Jensehi is just the name of the tent in a 7 tarp configuration. Could mean "Jens Lair". The older ones was fond of nicknaming everything; (kaffe)Lars is the name used on a coffee kettle. Was never used in my time in the forces.

The Norwegian Military Tent Sheet System KNAPPETELT

Some more info (it seems my earlier link is broken). The norwegian tarp is diamond shaped. No other shape was used. The tarps could be green (most common) or camuflaged. Each tarp is about 1,5 kiloes. The tents mostly used was 5, 7 or 10 tarps tent. Only at special occations was anything...

Original Norgy Cotton Feltskjorte Shirts Made In Norway and A German copy?

Don`t think they are used by the army anymore. Tuna stopped making them in 2015. Nowadays the army use a wool shirt from Aclima. We also got these woolen ones when I was in HV. Bråtens still make the cotton ones though (probably others too). Can be bought several places here in Norway.

Fatwood and birch bark in the old days

They was as important in the old days as now (at least here). You have to transfer the flame (made by your flint and steel) to something. And birch bark and fat wood is very flammable. Fomes Fomentarius (tinderfungus) was mostly used to catch the spark, and was also an export article. Tinder...

    Vikings

Some reading: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohthere_of_H%C3%A5logaland As for taking slaves; everyone could be taken as a slave (t(h)rell in norwegian). Either as a prisoner of war/raids, or because of debt. It is written that even Olav Tryggvasson (king of Norway 995-1000AD) was once a slave...

I love them. Works very well. I paid about £25 for both trousers and jacket (some years ago).

Only the armed forces ones have shield and date. The boots sold to civilans don`t. Made by Protex, Estonia nowadays. Alfa still make this shoe, but also in factories abroad.

    Helly Hansen fibre pile jacket

Well. It is an insulation jacket, not an outer shell. Haven`t seen one since the 80`s though.

    M77 Norwegian army boots sizing

Let me add that the quality of the boots have declined during the years. You could get a pair of good boots, but very often they are crap. One problem when I was in HV (National guard) was that the sole disintegrated during storage. I`ve not had the problem on mine, but plenty of other guys had...

    M77 Norwegian army boots sizing

We got some fuzzy insoles issued with the boots, and used one pair of thin socks together with a pair of thick wool socks (all year around).

    The gooseberries are ripe

Rowan berries is best used after frost (or cheating with the freezer). Takes away a little of the bitterness they say. I`we made jelly from rowan berries (frozen) only once , but I mixed it with an apple. Was very good with meat dishes (instead of lingonberry jam).

    rope preserving

Earlier The usual treatment for fishing gear/rope (and also sails) made from natural materials was "barking". The rope or nets was treated in a concotion of tree bark (birch, alder...), sodium carbonate (in earliest times this was not used) and water. The items soaked in the liquid for 3-4...
