    Tree Needles

It's not a pine. Probable a spruce of some sort, but would need a bit more info for a proper ID. Pines generally have longer needles, in groups of 2, 3 or 5. Sorry i can't be more help.

    Roof Tent

We always fancied one, but after seeing one up on the Isle of Mull in sustained 35mph winds, i really didn't fancy spending my nights feeling sea sick. It was ontop of a lovely 110, but was really swaying. Also, getting up for the call of nature at 3am after 1 too many drams would see both my...

    Hultafors Overstrike Guard Wanted

Nice job. I reckon, if you trim the 2 edges back to just behind the holes, you should be able to salvage that one. After all, the lacing on the back will hold it tight and doesn't get hit. That way the rest of the leather can be saved for your next axe .

    Ticks and their removal!

We always use the tick card from smidge. Has 2 removers, small and large and a magnifying glass. It's the size of a credit card, so fits nicely in my wallet.

    Lightweight footwear for the hills

I've never been a fan of lightweight treking shoes. but last year i was acting support for a mate running the west highland way ultra marathon. I bought a pair of Salomon X ultras and ended up doing the last 25 miles from Glencoe to Fort William in them. I have to say i was very impressed, good...

Carbon footprint of a paraffin lamp versus a battery lantern

I love my paraffin lamps and coleman duel mantel petrol lamp. the light they give out is way nicer than an electric. however, they are are heavy and bulky, so not so much good for backpacking. Candle lanterns are also great but, these days my eyes struggle with the light for reading etc. As for...

Just watched the first 2 seminars, very interesting and both Lori from Karamat and Dale and Colleen from Nature alive adventures gave very good talks. The talks are current and alot of what they have to say is very relevant in todays ongoing problems.

    Good fjallraven 'trouser' alternatives

I've been in the same situation as you, but i always find myself spending the extra and going back to FR. I just like the fit and the designs. So much so, i've just treated myself to a pair of the new Vidda pro ventilated. Be interesting to see how they perform.

    Knivsmed Stromeng Sami Knife

We bought the 8" ones, not the biggest, but a nice size. For chopping, firesticks, butchery, they are really good. Not really good for fine work, but thats why they are paired with a Puukko. As for being an allrounder, it's a tool, designed for a job, it's great at some things, and not at...
