Experiences with Cold Steel SRK 3V?

That's a great fireside story John. It reminds me a bit of Trigger's Broom story from Only Fools and Horses! Thanks for sharing.

Much obliged Gra, never seen the Bark River before, looks to be a beauty - and the sheath!

Experiences with Cold Steel SRK 3V?

Just wondering if anyone can share their experiences with using the Cold Steel SRK in 3V? Thinking off buying a bigger knife and really like the size/spec of this one. At £200, thought I'd put a toe in the water first, as it were.

    What did you buy today?

There's a 5% off sale at FFX it ends today. There prices on Victorinox are very keen anyway. I got a Farmer (another!) and a Huntsman in jelly blue roughly £46.50 for the two.

    MORA Knife ?

I use wet & dry sandpaper. Starting grit depends on how bad the edge is. Normally, I'll only need a 600, then 1000, then 1500. I have got 2000 but never felt the need for it. Finally quick stop on belt with green compound. Technique: cut a sheet into 1/3rds. Take a piece of flat wood of...

    Best budget camping axe?

I have one. I think I was given it so don't know the price. The metal is very soft, I don't think the edge is tempered at all, so whilst I did get it sharp once (after a lot of re-profiling) it lost its edge very quickly. Seems strong though - good for hammering pegs!

Are axes covered by UK Knife law?

Yes I think so. Fishing or canoeing are good reasons, for me. Everday-wise, I only ever have a SAK or small Leatherman (non-locking).

Are axes covered by UK Knife law?

Yes, that's how I feel about it exactly, thanks Fatcode. I always make it a rule to be polite to police officers (even when they're not) and would never be waving blades around or wearing them like a badge. Most of my 'carrying' is while fishing, on a canoe trip or on my way to such...

Are axes covered by UK Knife law?

Thanks Alan. You might have saved me a stretch at Her majesty's pleasure there. Has anyone on here been arrested for carrying a knife or axe whilst on the way to or in the outdoors? How did the police respond and deal with you?

Are axes covered by UK Knife law?

With UK Knife Law being so restrictive on fixed/locking blades I was thinking of carrying my smallest hatchet (0.5kg head, 34.5cm handle) in my rucksack along with my Silky and SAK, that would see me through anything I need to do as I never actually fell trees - but am I legal carrying the hatchet?

    MORA Knife ?

Companion heavy duty has to be the best value knife out there - does everything well, love the handle thickness and grippy texture, plus my burnt orange one is a bit harder to lose. This image shows the tangs of various Mora's (Garberg, Kansbol, Bushcrafter, Companion HD, Basic (probs)...

    Best budget camping axe?

The Husqvarna hatchet (the standard one with the heavier head) is good and cheap - can get it for about £25 from a few places.

    MORA Knife ?

I don't think it's worth it. The built in steel is quite small. The sharpener on the sheath is (IMHO) too small. Plus, it's cheaper to buy a decent sized steel (you probably have one already). Could epoxy a more useful stone to the back of the sheath or better still carry a small one like a DC3.

Do you carry a multitool in the woods?

For 300gms, I'd take it. On canoe trips (obviously weight isn't such a big issue) I always take my Gerber Legend. Never really used it but for the innumerable 'What if?' possibilities I'd always take it. Also take a Mora Companion (heavy duty, orange, stainless) and Laplander saw - they do get...
