    Thoughts on Premium Bonds

No, it's quite simple. Our oldest bonds were bought in £10 lots, while the newer ones were in the hundreds. So, blocks....and more chance of catching something in the spread of things. Like buying pages of raffle tickets instead of singles. So far it works well for us, and neighbours, and other...

    Thoughts on Premium Bonds

.....and yet, our old bonds don't give us any prizes, while the newer ones do so pretty much consistently.

    Thoughts on Premium Bonds

Older bonds seem to rarely win. Better to cash them in and buy new ones...right enough you can't just buy ten quids worth now. M

    Hand dipped candles

There's a couple who do the rounds of the re-enactors markets. John and Margaret, iirc. Lovely people, happy to talk, to explain and show how. Anyway, they make beeswax candles....you can pay a small sum and dip your own under instruction :) It's one of the fun activities of the markets. They...

    Cold remedies

Y'see, I'm the one with the scars and the sun damage, just from living life outdoors....under our very overcast skies. I get to tell folks to take care, iimmc ? because, trust me on this, the results when you don't pay heed, are awful. The skin cancer scare wasn't the one that made me face my...

    Cold remedies

I don't think sunbeds are safe. I think it's literally burning our skin; exposing our biggest organ to deliberate damage. If you want to be brown....spray tan works fine.

    Cold remedies

I am a fair skinned, green eyed, dark haired, freckled Scot.....classic Brit really. I now have a very neat two inch scar running down my left cheek.....I worked and played outdoors, and even in our lower level British sunshine, I managed to get a 'pre-cancerous lentigo', that it was deemed...

    Maps for walking in Scotland?

Harvey's maps are excellent. They're focused on smaller areas, intended for walkers/climbers and they're waterproof :D https://www.harveymaps.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000043.pl?page=search&SS=skye&PR=-1&TB=O&ACTION=&ACTION=Go%21

What do you lot do for a living?

Wet and muddy ! :D We do a lot of research before we even think of putting a spade into the ground though. These days the presumption is in favour of, "Preservation in Situ", so unless there's a real need to open up ground (development for instance) or ongoing research, then it's very hard to...

What do you lot do for a living?

Now? I'm a housewife with some very interesting friends :D I was an archaeologist. Then as the aches set in and RA got a grip I sort of segued into talking to folks. Explaining, encouraging interest, demonstrating, teaching, etc., Had a lot of fun doing all of it :D M

    Carnation Condensed Milk

He let it boil dry, didn't he ? :rolleyes2: I've had a few 'explosions' myself, but thankfully never condensed milk ones. We still don't talk about the chocolate covered balloons without cringing, and the less said about the blackcurrant syrup that fermented, the better.

    Musicians?

I have become very deaf, and music is now a pretty much lost pleasure. I used to play violin, (and tin whistle ! :D) Now I can't hold a tune at all. Having said that, I can still hear hammer dulcimer and admit I am tempted :)

    Cold remedies

You don't absorb iron properly if you're too low on VitC too. Scottish Govt advises pretty much all of us to take a daily Vit D. Lots of links, but the food standards folks one seems the easiest read. https://www.foodstandards.gov.scot/consumers/healthy-eating/nutrition/vitamins-minerals/vitamin-d

    Carnation Condensed Milk

If you put the unopened can into a pot of water, bring it to the boil and then simmer it for a couple of hours....let it cool a bit, then open the can....you know the caramel in Millionaire's shortbread ? Well that's it :D Easy to make if you've a fire at camp and fokls sitting around it in the...

Emergency light for first aid kit

It's a really bright clear hands free light, and it has different modes; one is a flashing red warning, which can be just as necessary at times.

    Cold remedies

Grate up an onion, put it in a jar, cover it in sugar (brown is good, but any will do ) cover the jar and set it aside...the fridge is fine. By tonight you'll have a syrup formed. A teaspoonful of that sooked slowly will soothe a sore throat, and help clear your head. The alternative is a good...

Emergency light for first aid kit

I bought a 'work light' for Himself recently. I was impressed enough that I bought another one to keep in the car, because it's bright, simple to use, very stable, can be charged from the car if necessary too. Like this... Two of them for under a tenner on eBay, maybe five or six pounds for a...
