New M23 from maker of Sissipuukko.

I missed this thread when it was posted; I like small knives, and this one looks very practical to me. .....I am not allowed to buy any more sharps though, so I'll just live vicariously through your posts :) (my sons tell me they're praying that the police amnesty is still in force when I...

Play The Trees - The Bushcraft Flute?

That looks, and sounds, brilliant :D Pick your tree....an elder has a soft pithy centre that can be wriggled out with an old knitting pin. So does walnut (only cut in July, otherwise it'll drain the tree) budleia and briar rose. I have a tin whistle, but honestly, I like to whistle just as...

Ask the Audience. Wind up torches.

A wee reel of dental floss....you can take it out of the holder and it's the size of a sewing machine bobbin. Useful stuff. Not just for sorting teeth, but it's a really strong repair thread, will work on leather, etc., and it's strong enough to lash stuff together too.

Last time you all saw this little man he was 2 yr old

They grow up too quickly; they really do. Next thing you know he'll be showing his own two year old how ....

Ask the Audience. Wind up torches.

How about multi use stuff ? stuff that gets used and kept fresh because it's useful. A wee tube of vaseline is not only good to stop chapped lips, heal hacks on fingers, good on grazes, etc., but squirted on a bit of stick it'll start a fire with a match, at least as well as any firelighter...

    Favourite Sandwich

I know someone like that. If he can't see his teeth marks in the butter, it's no' thick enough :rolleyes2:

I don't know why, but salad cream on a piece of bread just works so well :) Even on cheap 'blown polystyrene' type bread, it works. Maybe it's just a cheap quick and easy alternative to the olive oil and balsamic vinegar ? But then, HP sauce on bread works too. I don't think ketchup does...

Ask the Audience. Wind up torches.

I've had a few over the years, and honestly, they're mostly an annoying pain. They cramp the hand, they're very noisy, especially at night, and their light isn't always brilliant. That said, I have a child's Ikea one that is superb, and I've had it for over ten years now and it's still working...

    Spring anyone ?

Watched two buzzards gyring together this afternoon. It was a beautiful crisp cold sunny day here with clear skies. The rooks are pairing off too, as are the long tailed tits that usually flitter into the garden in a wee flock, now they come in pairs. Robins are looking particularly sharp and...

    Spring anyone ?

It's definitely here in Lanarkshire, though the uplands are still pretty frozen. We're down in the river valley and it's always that wee bit warmer here, a bit further ahead. It's been a beautiful day, but it was a hard frost overnight.

    Favourite Sandwich

I have a friend who makes venison lorne sausage....that's the square Scottish sausage that's just ideal for a piece. He says it lacks fat though so Shuggie adds the fat cut from Pope's eye steak to his mixture. I might be vegetarian, but my Husband isn't and I feel guilty that he doesn't get...

A fried cheese piece is very good indeed :) and brilliant with some chutney.

    Favourite Sandwich

There are too many subtle differences in what constitutes a 'Sandwich' though. To some it's a quickly thrown together something on a slice of bread or roll. To some it's a meal. To some it's a dainty wee tasty bite to go with afternoon tea. I mean, where do we stop ? is a pizza a...

    Antique looking keys found!

From the shape I'd guess late 1890's or so. If one is marked with a 7 then they're not terribly old....standardised, if I make myself clear ? Those keys are not for complex locks, just solid ones :) As for how long they've been in the ground....mind I mentioned context ? and out of context they...

I honestly prefer good bread just with a shallow bowl with good olive oil and balsamic vinegar, but he did ask for sandwiches :)

A cheugh roll.....that's a properly slow risen decent gluten flour roll, something you can get your teeth into not a thing like overblown polystyrene pretending to be 'bread'.....with jam and cheddar, and a mug of tea :D Failing that, salad cream and crushed crisps :D Or I quite like to shred...
