    Neck Knives.

I think that it's a bad thing that it's being called a neck knife or necker. I know that's our common parlance, but it's uncomfortable to explain. "No, I'm not going for the neck!", kind of thing :rolleyes2: Really, it's just an at hand small knife, neatly tucked inside a shirt and easy to...

Volunteers needed to record Scotland's ancient trees

I have to admit that I didn't think so much about the training as I did about the recording. Perhaps if there were sufficient interest then the English and Wales part of the organisation might be inclined to set up a similar training ? In the meantime though there is an online 'how to record'...

Volunteers needed to record Scotland's ancient trees

I think it's part of a UK wide scheme though; might be worth having a nosey around and seeing if it's happening in England, Wales and Northern Ireland too. M

    Shelf stable protein

If you just want to give it a go, they are for sale on eBay for under twenty two quid these days...

    Shelf stable protein

I bought the cheapest one available at the time; five round trays and a lid, no timer, just a sort of basic on and off, and it worked fine. Cost me under thirty quid and had a lot of use before I passed it along...we bought a rectangular one that was easier to store, etc., and has a thermostat...

    Shelf stable protein

Chicken makes jerky very easily, through turkey seemed to be preferred. I'm a good vegetarian, and even I managed to made venison, chicken, turkey and pork jerky without fuss just using a home dehydrator. Just be careful with your hygiene and there'll be no issues. Rehydrated just fine too to...

What wildlife did you spot today?

Magpies herryin the blackbird and thrushes nests :( There are wee broken blue eggs all over my garden. I know everything lives as best it can, but I don't have to like it, especially when it's magpies.

    Expanding trouseage

Sides generally balance better. Where are they tight though ? if it's the crotch that's pulling uncomfortably, then it's better to open it right up and fit in a melon slice shaped gore from the thighs up and down the other leg. M

    Medical scenarios

@TeeDee Neat idea :D I think you'd need to write, or at least Edit, that yourself, tbh. We all know examples of what not to do, and of how even the most careful and skillful among us fell foul of something simple that ended up a real bloodbath. How they coped and how they'd do in the...

Intelligence in nature - is there a ranking?

I am minded of the adage about trying to measure the intelligence of a goldfish by how well it could ride a bike.... Honestly, I think the crucial thing is how adaptable a creature can be, and how adept they are at changing the world to better suit themselves. Doesn't quite do with IQ points...

I have to admit that I still use the BcUK ones. Click on the wee line of three dots at the top of the reply; then click on the smilie face, and go down the page until you find the BcUK smilies. I'd like those more easily available if possible. I know I've memorised the code for a lot of them...

I'm pleased to hear that you're healing well :) Sorry to hear about the asthma, and I really agree with you about the NHS. We don't value it enough, we don't give it enough credit for what it does; the staff are brilliant :) I thank everyone who pays or has paid or will pay their National...

    Carnation Condensed Milk

I love carnation milk, and traditional Scottish tablet made from condensed milk....pity I can't digest milk properly and it makes me incredibly nauseous....ice cream is horrible stuff. I miss carnation milk though. It was lovely over a pudding, or made with rice for pudding.
