Anyone got any good sorrel recipes?

Sorrel also works as a pudding, like bistort leaves, at this time of year. Also used to make Dock Pudding, which is a mix of oatmeal ( you can use cornmeal) bistort, sorrel, nettles, onions and salt and pepper...I like mustard seeds in mine too) Think of it like a British version of polenta :D

Anyone got any good sorrel recipes?

Wash the sorrel and a couple of syboes....spring onions....or other oniony things; the bulbs from the ransoms are good just now....and chop up sort of coarsely. A wee bit of peeled and chopped red pepper's good with it too. Melt some butter in a frying pan, salt it, add the veggies and stir fry...

The Third Drawer Down (and the pot)

My 'stuff' like that is in an open topped box in the bottom of the wee awkward cupboard. Among other choice bits and pieces are things like butter pat makers, ceramic discs that stop milk boiling over, a double balloon whisk that was part of a wedding present set to my parents :rolleyes2: an...

    What’s your top scone recipe?

I confess that mine are usually by, "What do I have ? and that looks right".....and I agree @Stew that yoghurt's a good addition. It kicks the baking powder up a notch :) I mostly bake mine on the girdle (cast iron bake stone) and I rarely bother to cut them out, usually just patting them into...

    Thoughts on Premium Bonds

@Tengu If they're real silver, well made and they do something, then that's a bargain :) @TeeDee That happens here already. They only mine when the gold price is worth the extraction. That said, the mine's in trouble..... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-business-67359137...

    Thoughts on Premium Bonds

I have a silver charm bracelet. My Aunt bought me the bracelet chain when I was seven, and my Great Aunt bought me my first charm. I've collected them ever since, preferably moving, opening ones, and now the bracelet is too heavy to wear. Son 1 said I could cheerfully brain someone with it...

    Tilley storm lamp resurrection

@Pickle Good on you doing that :) I am very fond of those old lanterns. We did a lot of camping in my childhood, and the Tilley lamp was both the light and the warmth in the big Niger tent. My Dad and my Uncle used it under the sail draped boom of the boat too when they were out. In the 1970's...

What is the best DIY sole for home made shoes?

We just use rubber glue on ours. Copydex type stuff. It sets and flexes. You can buy rubber soles though, and those are better wearing. They just glue/stitch on. Google for Outsoles for home made shoes, and loads will come up. Sold for moccasins, felt and crocheted shoes. This kind of...

    Cheap good backpack for work?

I bought a Trespass one for work (muddy as get out) and was surprised at just how long it lasted. Ended up spraying it with fabsil, but for well under twenty quid it owed me nothing by the time it went into the bin. This kind of thing...

    Just add water.....

I had somewhat in mind a dark set up and needing good satisfying food without fuss.....and an easy tasty breakfast in the morning. The Sosmix I mentioned earlier does both very well, and it can be given more with the addition of finely chopped dried mushroom and red peppers too. Lasts for...

    Just add water.....

The recent ramble that turned time into scones :rolleyes2:  rather brought this idea to mind. Out and about and the ease of making something tasty. A wee poly bag of prepared 'stuff', add water, cook simply and enjoy :D So I thought about recipes that we might suggest and share that...

    Bog Flora

Round here figwort (rose noble) seems to thrive in the same sort of places as the meadowsweet and flag iris. I grow all of them in my garden, but they need to be dug out fairly often as they're inclined to take over.
