    Carnation Condensed Milk

I loved ordinary carnation milk in my coffee....I can't digest milk now, it makes me really nauseous, but I still miss carnation.....or better yet, carnation in rice pudding :) with raisins :)

    Getting On

I think the mind is kind to us as we die. I think we see those we loved who've gone before us, and the joy in seeing them again, in their welcome, makes the passing from one breath to never another, a gentle thing. I know having been so ill that the mind travels through our lives, brings up old...

    What’s burrowing under my shed?

This is probably totally off left field, but I have a hollow the double of that under my side fence. It's where the young badgers come into the garden to dig up worms and larvae. Most likely yours' is a fox having a go, but, well, you never know :) Are there any tracks in the loose soil though...

But not boring, not stultifying, not restrictive :)

    Getting On

Having recently faced my own mortality, and hopefully survived it, and finding myself utterly taken aback because I honestly thought that this getting older lark would take longer......find contentment. Find things you enjoy, and actually enjoy them. I've just been out in my garden, weeding...

Does anyone know what this would be called?

There are eight houses in our street of forty houses with roofs being repaired. Another seven have fences down and two have trees that have sort of shattered. Two cars damaged in the next street round from debris (tree and kids playground frame thing that uprooted and blew over). It might seem...

    Red Kites, Buzzards and Poultry

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/bird-flu-avian-influenza-latest-situation-in-england Looks like Suffolk's listed now.....this must be really hard on folks who keep small flocks that normally free range gardens and the like.

    Red Kites, Buzzards and Poultry

Apologies. It was a sparrowhawk that I photographed taking out the pigeon.....that said, I know there were other threads where I posted the hawk and prey photos. Usually it's kestrels round here. I know my neighbour took photos at the time of the hen and the kestrel, but it was a while ago, and...

    Red Kites, Buzzards and Poultry

It surprised us. It was a young hen, but it was a hen. Usually the kestrels take out the pigeons....they even have a go at the lumbering wood pigeons. Pretty sure there's a thread in Fair Game of my photos of the kestrel bold as brass not three feet from me sitting on the top of the white...

    Red Kites, Buzzards and Poultry

I thought all poultry was to be confined these days in England ? I know that it was a kestrel that took out a couple of a neighbours hens though, not the buzzards.

    Marl - Marl Pits

That stuff was much used to make hearth fired pottery. It stops large cracking.

    Marl - Marl Pits

Clay rich silt, usually marine origin, with algae involved in it somehow, iirc. Much used in the past as a kind of soil enricher. Not quite a fertilizer but definitely a good stuff to add to the soil for crops. It's not a thing around here at all. We have a lot of clay, a lot of sand and a lot...

I'm pleased to hear you got through it with minimal damage :) Son2 is working from home today; the trains are still not running. Lot of trees on lines and overhead cables very compromised. Son1 lives in Glasgow and he said that even the cross city trains aren't running properly. We need to...

The 'I've found a bargain' thread

They have a good selection of decent jumpers at that kind of reduced price :) Larger sizes in some of the cable ones. Nice find :D

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

We still have three or four of the old Glow engines (for RC model aircraft) up the loft. We need a clear out methinks.

    HEXAMINE. PLEASE READ!

I have a traction engine, there's a road roller one in my brother's house, and Son1 has a stationary 'factory' one. They're kind of cool toys :) Something very satisfying about them. Have you seen the coffee mug powered Sterling Engines though ? Those are really appealling.
