Thanks Broch. My days of white water are long over I would be exploring the canal network and possibly still waters. Think 14 foot would be too short for tandem paddling.
Ok. Thankyou. I was figuring that the 14 foot would be lighter but not sure whether it would allow for two paddlers. I would use a trolley to take the canoe the short distance to canal as I only have the Spyder trike not a car!
I am considering buying a trekk 14 or 15 foot Apache canoe. Have any of you got any experience with Hou? I am wishing to solo paddle with occasional tandem paddling.
I was bedridden for seven days with the virus. Lost appetite completely, very lethargic. The game saver for me was Dioralyte. Recently listened to a Paul Kirtley broadcast featuring Gordon Desman survival instructor for Australian forces who says that drinking 200 ml of liquid is much better...
Although things are pretty bad at the moment we all need something to look forward to. Hopefully North Wood can rise like a phoenix from the ashes in the future.
Tried the smock this weekend. Performed as expected it was warm and shed water after I had spray proofed it. Not easy to remove due to lack of side zips hence the need for a larger size. Good value at £45 posted. Didn't purposely attempt to catch an ember but have more confidence in cotton...
Although I have a selection of too many hats, if I was restricted to one I would go for the Lowe mountain cap due to its versatility with the flexible peak and the foldaway ear pieces. It is also easy to wash. I have an original and the gore tex version not much difference between them.
Hope everyone got back in good time after another successfull meet. A weekend of two halves with rain and wind Friday and Saturday and sun and wind Sunday! Roll on the bluebell meet.
I bought an Australian army smock from only army on the recommendations of a member who was at the moot last week. It is like a buffalo but outer is cotton not pertex. So should be better around campfire will proof the outer and try it out at Northwood meet at the weekend!
Bought a msr pocket rocket 2 from Go Outdoors today. As it was £5 cheaper on Amazon they matched the price and deducted a further 10%. It is more like a Saturn V rocket boils a cup of water in no time at all. May be coming to the winter moot so I can test it properly their.
Another solution is to use a metal grill from a computer fan. Maplins sell them for less than £3. The slots in the grill fit over the lugs on the triangle.
The ability to tighten the pivot sold the knife to me. The knife fits well into my hand. The spine takes a spark well and the scandi grind shaves wood well. I can see me using this more than my fixed blade version.
Ordered a tbs boar mk 2 folding uk legal knife with curly birch scales. Ordered 3 pm yesterday received today 11 am, pretty good service via Royal Mail. Have to go out later and try it out!
