    natural flint tinder

Anything dry and fluffy, if it's charred it's a bonus :) In my experience, if you find your tinder flying all over the shop when you strike down onto it, try grabbing a bit, rolling it up so it holds together a bit more then place that on the top of your flint, hold it down with your thumb and...

    Oak bowl

Very pretty, and the wood should keep the fruit fresher for longer as it absorbs the pheromones given off be ripening fruit! Nice one!

    Flint Knapping

Er...wow. I tried knapping at the moot a couple years back and so I can really appreciate the time and skill required for these, I on;y managed a hand axe, which still looked like a lump of flint that someone had dropped in the discarded pile ,even though Will had told me where to hit for about...

Big hugs to you No Idea, I hope you feel better soon and well done for keeping up with the kids, it would be easy to just ignore them while you were ill. I am very impressed and I love your posts, so refreshing to read and I have said it before- fantastic writing style!

    Lighting fires in damp conditions

+1 to everything already said... remember your triangles, I find a teepee style fire the best to get damp stuff going, and don't forget to push in the burning twigs from the edges, the ends will be dry :)

Bushy Bags ( Goody Bags for Bushmoot 2011!)

I'll have a cast about and see if I can get some more companies involved, this would be a perfect way for them to advertise to a specific group of people, I'm surprised that you didn't get a good response, perhaps if more people emailed or called, we'd get a better result. If any company comes...

So you think you are hardcore?

I'm so happy to hear this, we are so lucky to have a forest right on our doorstep here, but it seems that the only people that use it are tourists and old folk walking their dogs. It would be nice to see a bunch of kids and parents up in there, but they'd rather go to bloody costas :(

    BCUK Springwatch Thread

When the Weather outside is Frightful... render pine pitch!

@Dave: I was just bored, found a stash of pine resin the other day which I had collected earlier in the year and promptly forgot about. I was looking at the heater (procrastinating really, should be working lol!) and I was thinking about getting the bushcraft kettle on it (it does get hot enough...
