    Excellent Bushnell Customer Service

I had a problem with my Bushnell trail cam when I recently wild camped in Hatfield Forest with Woodlife Trails. The company asked me to send it back and, well, customer service doesn't get much better than this so I feel the need to tell everyone...

Hatfield Forest NT Wild Camp (with Woodlife Trails)

I posted a quick review about a Hatfield Forest National Trust Wild Camp that Woodlife Trails oversaw a few years ago in the Out and About section. I've just been on one at the beginning of June and there is another towards the end of this month, there are normally two a year and for some...

I took a picture of the sunlight through the fish leather I've made.

    Fish skin

Glad you liked it, I decided to take copious pictures so that I have a future reference guide and if it's helps anyone else then all's good. You can see diamond shapes of brown coloured light if you hold it up but perhaps they scraped it a little thinner and I'd guess they didn't bark tan?

    Fish skin

Bit of an old thread but rather than start a new one...I have recently undertaken fish skin leather making as a project so I thought I'd share what I found out. My first attempt was with three foot Salmon leviathans!

Plant & Tree ID Masterclass with Paul Kirtley

Interestingly Paul has sent out an email today to those masterclass members who have been involved for some time, veterans as he calls us. He is introducing a Tree & Plant ID Continuation Study Group (which is a subscription style membership over and above joining the masterclass) to go into...

Plant & Tree ID Masterclass with Paul Kirtley

I had a spare minute or two so I've done a blog page about the masterclass if anyone is interested as the joining window is opening, if not open now. I've kept the information on it fairly basic so that a) It doesn't spoil the experience for new starters and b) I don't want to rip off Paul's...

Finally got around to finishing my first pair of moccassins

I also used Joe's template to make a very similar pair. Like you I over puckered one over the other and was recently wondering about unpicking one and re-doing it. I detailed all the steps on a blog if anyone wants to cross reference...

    Recommended Campsites

I've covered some of this stuff in the blog but the trains from the station I noticed a distance three or four, guys next to me just got on with their stuff and I mainly heard noises connected to that, there was a mainly girl group over in the tent pitches who were a bit giggly a couple of times...

    Recommended Campsites

I had a weekend at the fairly new Lee Valley Almost Wild Campsite on the Hertfordshire/ Essex border which has big plans for the future and is open until late October. It has bushcraft sessions which are mostly run by Blackwolf Survival's Craig Fordham as a guest instructor at the weekends (I...

Justin Burke tomahawk and Q and A

I recently treated myself to a tomahawk from America as an early birthday present. It was made by a Tennessee blacksmith called Justin Burke who folk may have seen on Ben Fogle's 'Lives in the Wild' series. It was a bit of an indulgence on my part (I don't normally do indulgence) and even...

A non-EU custom charges tale (beware!)

A non-EU custom charges tale (beware!)

I'm not usually an impulsive kit buyer and I'm certainly not a kit tart, but since seeing Ben Fogle visit Tennessee to spend time with blacksmith Justin Burke I've really fancied one of his tomahawks. You of course pay a premium for bespoke goods and despite the postage being eye watering I...

Article: DD Hammocks: DD Tarp 4x4 MC

I asked DD Hammocks about this very thing concerning the loops on the DD hammocks tarp M and they said:- Regarding the loop sizes you're not really missing a technical point. They are bigger because once the tarp is pegged out (in the middle), there is often more pressure on the middle points...

    John Rhyder bark workshop

I recently attended a bark workshop that John Rhyder ran at the Weald and Downland museum in Sussex. It was a bit of a journey but was well worth it, not only content wise but to get some tutelage from him. He does several different courses of various lengths and subjects there. I've done a blog...

Plant & Tree ID Masterclass with Paul Kirtley

I think it's more that if folk join too late in the year that the have a bucket load of catching up to do and indeed miss a season or two relevant to the topics.

    Shop purchased silver birch sap

As the birch tapping window gets ever closer I was interested to see that Waitrose is selling birch sap in the fresh juice section. Despite the appearance of the word water in the title is it actually 100% sap. Not cheap at £2.49 but it offers folk a taste who haven't got the opportunity (or...
