    Condor Bushlore. Any good?

It's a nice leaf shape with plenty of handle length. Downside, it's only 1075, meaning it's very tough but it won't hold an edge for as long as some other steels. You won't get chips but it may blunt or roll. Those handles look smoooth.

Current thoughts on treatment of human bodies or body parts in museums?

I remember my gran's burial and despite all of us feeling the way we felt, I was struck by how we give away the whole ritual of goodbye / burial to a group of people who have made it part of their business. If we were forced to do all of it ourselves, it would be at the very least awkward and...

Current thoughts on treatment of human bodies or body parts in museums?

We have a very strange relationship with death. It's definitely a repressed part of life in the western world, which makes us very susceptible to panic reactions, see: the last couple of years. I don't think it's cruel to introduce kids and young adults to hunting and butchery - if it's done...

    Life's simple hacks

Just the very elementary work of replacing bulging or busted capacitors cuts down on a -ton- of expense and e-waste. It's I guess the most basic kind of electronics work but I'm still proud to finally be doing it. ;) For my homelab, hotplate etc., I bought very solid units that happened to be...

    First axe

Husqvarna and Hultafors are good. Like Gransfors but without the fashion brand premium. You may have to give it some TLC when it arrives, I heard they're not always finished perfectly. But that's fine with me, I buy regular forestry axes and you're expected to sharpen them first anyway. Keep in...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

I have been able to heal some very stubborn diabetic ulcers in my family by applying honey, the stuff is magic. That would be good to stock up on, too. I heard sugar was used for wound treatment in ancient times too. Never tried that. You can do pickles even without vinegar, just by doing a...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Solar is neat, we have that as well. But don't count on it yielding much in the winter months, when an outage would hit the hardest. It's more of a slow return on investment when you expect money to devalue. Having a stockpile of dry goods like legumes and grains, rice and millet is a great...

    Bent axe blade

My Gränsfors Bruks had the whole head with a small twist in it. Not a dealbreaker but it soured me on the brand a bit, especially considering price. That picture looks like a fairly slim Scandinavian profile too. You might not even notice it much in actual work but it's just bothersome having a...

    Carnivore only Diet

That the Inuit are healthy is one of those myths that keeps going around. They're healthy by virtue of almost never visiting hospitals or doctors. Their life expectancy isn't that great and they get heart disease. Still, the animals they eat are healthy at least. It could always be worse. Try...

Better fixed blade steels in the UK/EU these days?

The whole fashion of knife steels and how it's changing over the years is so silly. Old steels don't get magically worse. Remember that 440c was once The SuperSteel. Also, performance is hugely dependent on blade geometry, grind, heat treat. Not all products are a sensible marriage of all of...

    Bushcraft and Mental Health

Tree pheromones have great healing properties on humans that inhale them. Whether it's being out in nature that is healthy or sitting in concrete coffins that is detrimental - who knows. I don't doubt that some mental health issues do benefit from the literal "grounding" that nature provides...

    Howdy

Hi all! I'm a knife collector from Deutscheland. I love the outdoors but have only gotten to do a modest amount of bushcrafting. It all started with an EnZo Trapper. Then followed a couple of Ganzos, Harnds, Victorinoxen and finally a couple of Moras to make up for the lack of fixed blades...
