    What did you buy today?

Yeah I already have an EnZo and a Ganzo in D2 so I'm familiar with the steel. I like it a lot. For knives that aren't used for chopping, something hard and abrasion-resistant is great.

    What did you buy today?

Bought a Manly Peak in D2, two-handed opening to comply with German knife carry law. My first Bulgarian knife, they're supposed to do a great heat treat. It was between this and 14c28n at nearly the same price. Pictures in a couple days.

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Tribal thinking is ingrained somewhere in our biology. We are social beings and desire to belong to and be valued by our chosen groups. The problem is that in the age of the internet, a group can be a very abstract and global thing. And then you have certain players playing on our biological...

    best cheap knife

Yes they're quite excellent and the steel is super tough. I think it's 1060 or 1070. So it's a perfect gardening or toolbox knife, I think that's what it was made for. If you want to pay not that much more and have a more lasting edge with 1095, you can go for a Mora Pro or a Mora Robust. I got...

Percolator thoughts? Good, bad, other? Which one to get?

I just do a French press without the press. Put desired amount in cup, add hot water, cover it & wait 10 minutes, done. Could be made in a pot, too. Carrying a whole chunky piece of kit just to produce the coffee slightly differently would be madness to me. Actually I do the same thing at home...

Plant Stacking - Optimal results , minimal space.

My uncle did hydroponics using a Russian method, where big PVC pipes were arranged in a staggered pattern like very steep stairs, and holes cut into the pipes to fit plant tubs.

    Skills or lack there of

Mushroom identification is daunting. There is a lot to know and a lot to get wrong, and the consequences of failure are somewhere on the diarrhea <---> death spectrum. I know a few very identifiable ones, such as parasol, king bolete, etc. But watching experts on Youtube makes me realize how...

    Virus software rip off

https://www.av-comparatives.org/ for indepth comparisons. Antiviruses can be worse than malware because they too have hooks that may weaken browser or e-mail security. I personally don't use any, because I know what gets downloaded and when in doubt I put it into a sandbox and see how it...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

I just lactoferment everything, as that also makes stuff shelf-stable for a really long time. It should work with fresh beans, but I don't know the kind. Mostly I do Sauerkraut, or carrots, or a hot sauce mix to be blended later. Fermenting garlic in honey is really cool too. Just get some...

    Beginners kit

For the craft part of bushcraft you really want to have a knife with you. A cheap Mora or that Hultafors will serve you well. Bring appropriate clothing and a minimum of your usual hiking supplies, like a water bottle and a lighter. Having a hatchet or boy's axe or compact saw is great too. A...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

During our last flood in Germany there was a wave of support and helpers arriving while the official rescue forces were stuck lacking official authorization because of some political issue. So yeah, I have much more hope in people being decent and the horror scenarios we get in movies can just...

Preparing for troubled times ahead - Advice on what is needed.....

Modern electronics are no different from old electronics, just miniaturized, more complex and more failure-prone. Transistors are still transistors. A solar flare will absolutely destroy our digital infrastructure. What modern power supplies have is various voltage and surge protections, which...

Morakniv ash wood outdoor knife collection

Deluxe price without deluxe features. Even the Garberg to me is about 40€ overpriced. Either they don't know their market or they're trying to cash in on the bushcraft-bucks.

    Ever burned yourself Bushcrafting?

I don't recall ever burning myself seriously while bushcrafting or during several years as a boyscout. But we never casually put individual cooking items on and off the fire, besides bread on sticks or hot dogs on sticks. During hikes it was most often cold breakfast and dinner and when at camp...

    What did you buy today?

Bought bags of cetyl alcohol, hydro palm glyceride and beeswax and aim to make some colloidal silver creams among other things. I've been wrangling with myself about the Skrama 240 and 200, downside being that I live in Germany where these long blades are not legal to carry. Just use 'em in the...

    micarta vs G10?!

G10 is basically a fibreglass laminate with epoxy, while micarta is a linen, denim, canvas or paper laminate with epoxy phenolic resin. G10 is noticeably heavier, usually polished smooth, unaffected by water. Micarta is lighter, can be more coarse, grippy, and can soak some water, sweat or body...

Human Nature - The problem with people.

Peace and harmony doesn't make for good TV, that's all there is to it. So they pre-select personalities that will create "entertainment". Further down the road people will then watch TV and take the reality they're being shown as "the reality". I have seen people act out the kind of silly...

Better fixed blade steels in the UK/EU these days?

12c27 and 14c28n are rather similar to more refined versions of 440B or AUS-8. They're considered high-end, yet people turn their nose at AUS-8. Sleipner is just a better D2. So much marketing in steel as well and ironically not even by the steel suppliers but the customers. I'm just not that...

    quest for a new knife

If you mean Sanrenmu, they're generally quite good. Don't expect a perfect secondary grind, but that's a small thing remedied by the first proper sharpening anyway. I don't have a Ruike myself.
