Come along to the amazing Summer Moot (21st July - 2nd August), a festival of bushcrafting and camping in a beautiful woodland PLEASE CLICK HERE for more information.
today i helped a friend of mine to sort her belongings -- she's leaving the country and needs sadly to get eid of most of it in short time :-(
most of it will hopefully raise some cash for her in an upcoming yard sale, but my "personal score" is a brandnew-looking stove. there's no description...
the ones i used never made fire for me -wether it's my technique or the rods i've no clue -- and i'd be quicker at getting a fire going by just staring at a block of wood... i had also corrosion issues due to high humidity so i gave up and chucked mine into the trash long time ago...
aanndd i've...
my headwear is a headband (made from a strip of an old towel) -- judging from photos, descriptions and pics a traditional headwear in many parts of the world. i'm rather fed up with oh-so-new and "original" "Rambo" jokes BUT it keeps the sweat of my face in the humid climate of the rainforest...
now i'm speechless...
i returned earlier today from my first overnighter in god-knows how many years and now i'm just quickly checking my messages "at the office" and see the post above -- i was only planning to let you folks know what happened to my quest, but most definitely not expecting...
thanks for your offer, but for now the quest for a new knife has to be (sadly) postponed: what limited funds i've at the moment will go towards finishing school (==getting a license as a tour guide) and some other projects...
knife wise i'll stick to the faithful version of the "mora companion"...
he is... had a chat with him: after a pile of horse manure from him we reached the arrangement that he's getting the backpack (=sabre 45) for me when ordering some solar panels online over a nearby factory -- if that's just another load of bovine excrement it's "bye, bye"!
the knife sadly has to...
conclusion of thread: as mentioned in post #1 the knife was supposed to be part of my payment working for someone and to be delivered upon return from europe --- after about six months of research (incl. asking you folks for advice) and enough bovine excrement from the guy i was working for i...
sorry to go somewhat off-topic (and quote myself), but second time i visited her place i made a joking remark about the large number of machetes around the house (common items around here :-) ) --- which had her digging under her kitchen counter for her favourite one (12" blade, for cutting up...
it took me several years and involved a useless lawyer, a second lawyer knowing her job (and charging a fair price), lots of misfortune(documents gone missing "thanks" to the corona conspiracy..., my dog being kidnapped when going back to town trying to find out where my documents are... etc.)...
i'm since many years convinced that a useless bird (a.k.a. "stork" ) dropped me off in the wrong place (and time?!) and that i was supposed to be dropped off in the land "Down Under" -- @ least i felt immediately at home there when i visited first... .unfortunately i doubt australian immigration...
my "outer layer" (=shoulder bag, tool belt, backpack) still comes in colours blending into my surroundings (==result of too many bad encounters with two-legged predators) -- although only my 18year old ponch comes in camo, the rest is olive or khaki. items inside the bags are either attached...
the video Felix Immler released last week (=about attaching a diamond stone to the sheath of the basic version) has some interesting ideas in it.
am i the only one who would prefer a version of the knife in scandi or convex grind?!
thanks for your idea :-) i never heard of logan bread before... i don't have a stove but i'll experiment with small batches made over a campfire once i've a bit more funds available
it recently got mentioned in another thread i can't find right now, but recently a guy doing historical living...
wish i'd known this thread (or forum) in april 2007 when i walked the "south coast track" in tasmania: as fires weren't allowed and i had no stove my provisions for 7days consisted of oats, sugar and cocoa powder (milk powder didn't agree with my digestion) -- a Spotted Quoll pinched the jar...
strictly books only for me! they don t require batteries in need of charge, electronics playing up etc. and just feel better :)
and have you ever tried to swat a fly with those electronic gimmicks?! :P
i live off-grid and most of the time my phone is turned off. to get Wi-Fi i've to walk at least two km and cross a river (which can flood rapidly after big rain in no time...) and hope i have reception -- not much of an issue for me, except at the moment i'm doing some courses, part of which are...
the casstrom no10 14C28N (as i'm living in humid climate and sleipner steel seems to require more maintenance) has made it on the top of my list -- currently there's only a few in stock so hopefully my european contact can grab me one :)
i was planning to get a brisa trapper95 (blank + scales ) but both trapper sizes are currently out of stock and won't be back (according to their email) until my contact returns from europe :-(
that fallkniven R2 does indeed look nice, BUT it's unfortunately a wee bit too pricey for me :-(
