My mother never saw the irony in calling a me a son of a bitch.

    Hard-boiled Eggs

The same way I have done for years: Bring to the boil from cold; simmer for 8 minutes; drain and cover with cold water until cool; eat one and put the rest in the fridge so they're even colder when I try to peel them. - Some good ideas elsewhere in the thread, ta. I shall give them a go....

    Hard-boiled Eggs

What is it with Hard-boiled Eggs these days? I seem to recall that in ye goode olde dayes one could peel the shell from the egg in a couple of small pieces and 3 or 4 large pieces. All done in a few seconds. These days I seem to have to spend, perhaps, up to a minute or so peeling off small...

    Tarp teepee

You may find a Golite Hex 3 or a Shangri-La 3 tent "pre-loved" somewhere. I still use my Hex 3 occasionally and remain pleased with it. You can use the pole or suspend it from a tree or equivalent. You can use it a) with the inner, b) without the inner, c) with the floor. If I recall correctly...

Nothing is more irritating than not being invited to a party that you wouldn't be caught dead at.

    Rule of Three

When I learned to dive the instructor told us about what he called the Cone of Death: when things start to go wrong, Stop. Otherwise you will likely end in a descending spiral of doom...

    Eggs - Recipes and Preservation

Another vote here for Tortilla Española. I use left-over cold potato rather than cooking it for the dish. I make assorted variations on this theme using small pieces of chorizo, etc., depending on what's in the fridge. Flexible! And quick (at least the way I do it)...

In search of a new back pack.

I've got 3 Lowe Alpine packs of various sizes and have been very pleased them. Even the one I "replaced" still gets regular use. I'd say they are certainly worth a look.

Good wishes for a bright Winter Solstice :)

A Cool Yule to you all. And let's hope that the lengthening days here in the North, at least, bring a little brightness in the coming year to all the living things sharing our planet...

Did you hear about the overweight Ballerina? She had to wear a three-three.

    No heat instant/emergency food?

Logan Bread is another option. It's a flapjack / biscuit-like thing. A search will find you some recipes. It's long-life and pretty well balanced with quick and slow release stuff. Takes time to chew too. I make a batch from time to time. This is a post where I quote the recipe I use. But there...

    What did you buy today?

A Greenworks Cordless Hedge Trimmer (61cm blades) to help me with dissuading the Blackthorn that is attempting territorial gain on the main track, and elsewhere, in my woodland. I should probably be able to damage some of the wilder plants in my garden with it too...

    Emergency Preparedness Guides

I see from the Beeb today that our Northern European cousins have been recently provided with some new and updated emergency preparedness guides by their Governments. If interested, the links to the docs and / or content are in the Beeb article... https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjr4zwj2lgdo
