What Low heel drop, Waterproof Trail shoes?

I currently have a pair of Goretex-lined Merrell shoes for light outdoors duties (ie. when not wearing boots) I have begun wearing lower heeled shoes for running to promote a 'mid-foot' strike and have been wearing flatter shoes for day-today use. Having worn the Merrells for a forest walk...

    Do not walk!

Heavy rain, as we appear to experience frequently for extended periods nowadays, appears to cause/accelerate a lot of the erosion and bogginess around here.

    Decathlon liner Jacket

That looks as if it might be even better, but much more expensive (and less rain-friendly) than my reduced-from £19.99-to-£7.99 Aldi winter jacket.

    Combining other fabrics with Paramo

I also like Merino a lot, but it does tend to absorb sweat/water more than a synthetic top. For maximum breathability/dryness in strenuous activities I'd er towards a Coolmax base layer and a fleece under my Paramo Velez Adventure Light smock. Bimbling about with the family, I just wear...

    Combining other fabrics with Paramo

synthetic wicking layers from other manufacturers seem to work fine underneath my Velez Adventure light. Paramo isn't magic, it's basically a water resistant material held away from your skin by a thin wicking layer.

    Altberg Warrior Original

I've a pair of Lowa Mountain GTX. They must have changed the sole in recent times because they are grippy Vibram units on mine.

Help and suggestions for a warm coat. Bear with me.

It sounds like a copy of my Aldi jacket ;) ....although admittedly the clearance-priced Aldi jacket doesn't have a hood.

    Aldi "Lightweight Winter Jacket" Bargain

I gave it some "field" testing today -Walking very slowly and stopping a lot with my 2 year old daughter. At ~1DegC and a cold breeze, with the Aldi jacket, a neck warmer, a Merino jumper and a T-shirt I was very comfortable. I had expected to be a little cold because the jacket is very light...

Old boots resoled with car tyre!

I suspect that Impact adhesive might not last long, but does depend on the surface prep. Shoe Goo is supposed to be good.

    Aldi "Lightweight Winter Jacket" Bargain

I picked up one of these desirable jackets, left over from a previous "Thursday Special", in my local Aldi for the grand sum of £7.99, down from £20. As it packs quite small, the intention was to use it as an extra/lunch layer to keep in my rucksack, but the "lofting" and fit is better than I...

Beefing up the M65 for winter

...Still working. I'm quite pleased with this cost-free upgrade. Warm out on site yesterday.

Beefing up the M65 for winter

My replica M65 jacket with quilted (but non-elasticated wrists) liner is fine for normal conditions, but no use below freezing. In the past I'd buttoned in a pseudo-polarfleece "waistcoat", but the arms were still a little cold and the coat wasn't quite up to standing around in the cold. The...

    Problem with paramo

I'm not retired. My Velez Adventure Light is a great bit of kit. It is very comfortable, breathes really well and keeps the rain out. I wear mine a lot. -Much more pleasant than a wetted-out membraned jacket for most activities. I think I'd be tempted to take a light poncho or top half of a...

Merino Wool vs. Regular Wool for Mid or Outer layer

Merino for base layer. I've a heavy-for-merino 260g Icebreaker Coronet 320 which is quite warm for the thickness of it, but it's not as warm as a heavier, chunky regular wool jumper. Obviously, there are advantages to less bulky layers. I wore a long sleeve base layer, the Merino Coronet and...

    How effective is a poncho?

I really like my Velez Adventure Light. It works for a wide range of conditions, temperatures and activities. If I was going to be sitting still outside for long periods I'd probably take a poncho though

Paramo Velez Adventure Light Smock, any users?

On a day of walking and clambering in the Welsh mountains on Sunday (mild in the valley and cold on the tops), the Adventure Light with a long sleeve base layer underneath was perfect for the ups, the downs and the wind at the top. I remained totally moisture-free all day.

Paramo Velez Adventure Light Smock, any users?

I have the Velez Adventure Light -It is about half the weight of the 'non-light'. I've had mine since September and it has been good (kept me dry and very comfortable) in all conditions I've worn it in. Rain, wind, hail, sleet, snow. It seems a little warmer than a Gore-tex, but much less...

    Hill Descent Control (Freelander)

I once saw a Freelander fry its clutch trying to drive up the Wayfarer. Luckily there was a bloke with him driving a Vauxhall Frontera who was able to tow him up to the top..... Low-range is probably a good idea for an off-roader, but how many Freelanders ever leave tarmac?

    Wool, warm when wet?

For hill walking and mountain biking, as a base layer, My Icebreaker 150 Merino is my favourite, followed by an old-skool Coolmax(late 1990s, newer Coolmax gear doesn't seem as good) Ron Hill. Other synthetic tops lag far behind. The Icebreaker is more comfortable and smells far nicer. I also...
