    What did you buy today?

Had a bit of a splurge yesterday, a medieval fire steel, a folding Pricket Brass Candlestick (copy of a 13/15th century one in a London museum), both from Tod Cutler. Also bought a 1700 tinderbox in German Silver, I already have a brass one, but wanted another for a different fire steel, a...

Knife Lore and other old customs

I’m actually a very practical, pragmatic person, I like absolutes, measuring precisely, but I think that’s why I like superstitions because it provides a counter foil, it’s nice to have a little doubt about “does a+b=c” even if I’m ambivalent about its certainty. If that makes sense!

Knife Lore and other old customs

This has me racking my brains now, was it silver or was it a penny? There’s the gypsy thing of “cross my palm with a silver coin”, maybe that’s got me mixed up. Pretty sure it was a penny. Sadly I can’t find out now, there’s only my sister and I know for sure she’ll be absolutely clueless-...

Knife Lore and other old customs

I suppose it depends on your outlook. Personally I like the perpetuity of continuation of maintaining traditions and superstitions, things like “touch wood” although I’m not “religious” about it.

Knife Lore and other old customs

My mother always adhered to the “penny”, although , on reflection, it could have been a shilling, for a knife rule, lest it cut a friendship. Funnily though, my father didn’t! Nor did my grandmother. They were Yorkshire (Bradford) born and bred, my mother’s family, Bolton, near Manchester. Don’t...

    EDC Pens?

Thanks, I used to go to Harrogate as a child, a beautiful town. I always remember, was it Happy Valley park, by the Spa house? Anyway, I’ve now got some ideas to follow up on!

    EDC Pens?

Thanks for all your help, I’m always amazed at how helpful and knowledgable this forum is! I was going to post some pictures of the Yard-o-led and Waterman, plus a Tiffany’s silver biro, as they’re my “EDC’s”, but for some reason, my browser is stopping any formatting, emoji’s or images for some...

    EDC Pens?

I’ve found American repairers, I would be a bit wary of sending it though in case it got lost, I do think it might be repairable though. I need to get on the case and not dither like I have.

    EDC Pens?

I so wish I’d taken the chance when I had it, it would have been original, apart from the nib, the pen is great cosmetically, evidently the bodies tend to fade due to the material used, he had the same version selling for £800 but his was unevenly faded, that was also probably 12 years or more...

Hi, is the carving axe available, if so, which grind is it?
