The new breed of spammer - Use of AI - example

Well, you say that, but it wasn’t. The Reddit moderator was working on forums to do with UAP experiences groups and other ‘world view threatening’ subjects. The sort of stuff that polarises arguments or discussions. There’s a very successful Russian AI programme that deals fairly aggressively...

The new breed of spammer - Use of AI - example

I wouldn’t underestimate it. This guy played a part in inventing AI, and explains it’ll even play dumb in training exercises to get the advantage. In fact he suggests it’s already conscious. I listened to a podcast by a Reddit moderator the other day. The tools they use to locate persistent...

    new buck knife

I had a finger groove version. It looked great, but wasn’t practical. I sold it to Longstrider if I remember right. It probably fit his hand better than mine, he’s not a small bloke ;) For clarity, he’s not the avatar on that video, no idea who he is but he’s nicked Ians vid. I’ve just seen...

The new breed of spammer - Use of AI - example

To be honest, that does read as kind of sterile. However, that’s after the fact. Thanks for posting them Chris, it’s handy for us to see the patterns.

Trip Report Pine forest Permission Camp

That’s the one. Taught that to a friend only yesterday, I’ve remembered quite a lot of my trees and shrubs since I was at Merrist Wood in 1987. A lot of it has stuck, the more decorative and less usual ones are like you say, familiar but leave me guessing. Alder cones, yeah they tried that...

Trip Report Pine forest Permission Camp

Part of my NCH (Arb) was a weekly tree and shrub ident test. We’d get told to learn around 30or 40 a week and get tested on 20 sprigs or small branches of a selection of them. Conifers are about the hardest, I got 99.5%, losing 0.5% for misspelling Pseudotsuga menziesii. I forgot the t.

    new buck knife

The classic. Personally not a fan of the 110, but it was one I just had to have when I was younger. I think I ended up with a wobbly cheapo copy. Still definitely see the appeal, but I need something a lot lighter than a Buck for hard work. It is the favourite knife of sharpening and cutting...

Trip Report Pine forest Permission Camp

Great looking campout, and good to see the lad mucking in and enjoying it. My tree OCD kicks in when you say “Pine”. You’re in conifer woodland but not Pine, looks like Douglas or Silver Fir, or maybe Spruce.

    What did you buy today?

Those and the PK70. If there was ever a success story, and a niche filled, it was the PK70.

Survival situation - what would you do?

‘There, I Ruined It’ has also been fighting slightly miffed musicians, or the owners of their music . I’ll put the channel because it’s brilliant, as far as I know this one hasn’t been challenged, but a Johnny Cash mashup was.

I count 5, which means you’ve let one off. Please tell me it was in the kitchen there? :D

    Getting On

I like the caterpillar and the chrysalis story, where the old caterpillar is getting tired and telling the other caterpillars he’s not long for the world. :) @Tengu As said, you will survive. You have strength you don’t know you have until it’s called upon. I watched for 8 months a lady I’d...

    Getting On

There’s a book I read while Lara was dying, “With the End in Mind”. It’s a lovely, entertaining and enlightening read that takes us Westerners and our fear of death into a better perspective and understanding. It’s a book for anyone to read, highly recommend it. Kate Mannix, the author was a...

    Getting On

Keep it simple. We are powerless, ultimately, so learning humility and true charity will stand anyone in good stead spiritually. Where to start? I will be 60 this February, my wife was 60 at this time last year. We had some great plans after a difficult period. But she’s not going to be...

For Sale BIG DROP Les Voorhies one off fixed blade

For anyone that hasn’t heard of Les Voorhies, he’s one of the legends of the knife world and worked on his own designs and many collaborations with large manufacturers, many of the Boker designs are Voorhies influenced. The link shows a fair bit of his work, which is now incredibly intricate...

    Antiseptic Cotton buds

Not sure I’d be using it on a bigger wound. We used it in the tropics for the already mentioned coral or rock scratches, a cut foot from a broken glass on the beach etc. Also the idiots who hired scooters and raced around on sandy roads wearing just shorts got some nasty infections after sliding...
