Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

Performance has been excellent, it’s remained waterproof in several hours of constant rain. But I’m not too sure what I’m expecting of the TechWash stuff? Even from new, the outer wets through, but no water penetrates. That’s what I meant by magic. This guy here shows it in his video around 5.30...

I’ve been on here a while, and concur :35:

Nikwax TX.Direct - does it work?

And conversely, I’ve also used (and stopped using) Nikwax products for years because not a single one of them works. Instructions followed to the very letter on an expensive Paramo Halcon. It doesn’t let in water, but there’s zero beading on the fabric and it just wets through. Luckily Paramo...

    Deer deterrence

I could see a problem with neighbours if there are any. A neighbour of a friend of mine has (had, it mysteriously stopped working ;)) one of those high pitched sonic deterrent things to keep dogs or cats off. I don’t hear it but my friend can hear it going off anytime anyone or thing walks past...

    Deer deterrence

Deterring them isn’t going to work, it’s either fence the area or deer proof the plants.

Rechargeable EDC Torch (Olight or similar)

This is a Classified thread, @C_Claycomb pointed it out in post #5. I’ll chuck in some pointers but it might be best discussed in its own thread? Wuben are reasonably well regarded on BudgetLightForum, quirky and well built, though I’m loathe to do anymore discussion in someone else’s...

    Spoon craving neck problems

Not sure your exact problem as you’ve been very specific, but fibres fuzzing up is common. Oak is a good example and one of the reasons for linseed oiling and letting the oil harden over several days before fine sanding and repeating.

    Useful radio suggestions

Tecsun are definitely worth checking out. I ended up over killing and getting a PL-880, but something smaller might suit. If you’re going to buy Tecsun, do it from Anon-Co, they have a glowing rep. I had a thing for the CountComm pocket one but the newer model utilised a battery pack and not...

    Stropping compound?

Just going back to this, 3mm is great for convex edges or general edges on larger knives. The blade bevel is pressed into the leather and nicely smoothed round. But if your sharpening something like a Spyderco, SAK, with thin flat bevels (most folders really) then thinner leather stuck down hard...

    What did you buy today?

Possibly me too. The Spitfire kits are superb value. They get mentioned a fair bit, don’t let TeeD get all rosy glowy about it

Ask the Audience. Wind up torches.

Your Li-ion batteries have a shelf life of around 10 years, it’s a no brainer to have something small and reliable than something mechanical, inefficient and breakable. Easy to replace a battery, not so part of a dynamo type generator. Make certain that the batteries are taped one end or...

Ask the Audience. Tesla USB plasma coil lighters

Chuck a mini Bic in. Totally reliable, no batteries slowly draining. It’s the bugout staple.

    Favourite Sandwich

D90 wasn’t it, the cheapest TDK. I’ve been thinking about the sandwich and for some reason my mind is saying ‘simple’. So, decent cheddar and mild sliced onion and a bit of mayo, on white. Home cooked roast beef thin sliced, but loads, with good horseradish and too much salt, also on white cut...

Tools or techniques commonly frowned upon, but you do it anyway

lol! That’s really coming clean there Tony, well done for getting it off your chest :lmao: I have a little Jisulife battery fan that not only will blow up my camping mat in seconds, but also blast the fire or barbecue to flame in no time. And I baton folders, my old Super Swede never...

Is a D100 the old TDK cassette that would slowly tangle itself in the innards of your tape deck, entirely randomly? :D

Ask the Audience. Tesla USB plasma coil lighters

I’ve had a couple and chucked them. Pretty useless. Most recent chuckaway was Sunday when I was trying to light a candle. Well, actually 30 candles and I lost faith on the first one. It’ll do paper or anything held carefully in the arc, but no way you can stuff it under some tinder and get...

    SIlver Birch Coppicing/Pollarding advice needed.

See how nothing is growing under the Chestnut but there are signs of old bramble and bracken where the Birch is? Tannins in the rotting leaves. It makes any steel you cut the wood with go blue/black. Bit of local history for everyone. These are 2 season sticks and will be harvested at the...
