I already have an axe wrapped in paracord with a small section of bicycle tyre on bottom to hold it all together - that works well. I have one with no guard at all and theres chunks missing - they definitely offer good protection. Dont take offence but I'm not after opinions this time around...

Just happen to stumble across this thread. I know what system he will have used for this test, we used same in Mountain Rescue, though for hauling and not breaking. Just a simple matter of adding a short section of cord into the system, along with a set of scales that has a max pull needle on it...
