    Modern day Billhook

I prefer a bill hook to an axe any day. Used one in the woods while coppicing for years. Made all sorts of things with it, chopped kindling, split small logs etc. A most versatile and underrated tool.

Wonderful idea Rich. Could you send me your plans to convert a 750 shaft drive to power a little plastic pump action salad spinner please? I just so have to have a go at drying my undies like that. We could make a fortune between us! :lmao:

    Let's see your dog

Sadly I no longer have a dog of my own, but I have several dozen local doggie friends. I had 3 dog hugs today, one from a dalmatian, one from a lab, and paw prints on my jeans from a little Yorky called Ricki. All the local dogs know me as I usualy have little biscuit bones or treats in my bag...

    What did you buy today?

My washing machine is kaput, so I've been handwashing and my long time ago dislocated wrist isn't happy trying to wring out the handwashing. Today, I found a large salad spinner in the charity shop and had a brainwave. Bought it for a couple of quid, did some handwashing of socks and undies, and...

What to do with partially boggy land?

I've done a bit of thinking on this. I don't know where you are in Wales but googling permaculture Wales, I've come up with a couple of places. One is Glasbren in sw Carmarthenshire where they take volunteers on a Thursday, no experience needed which might be a good free way in if they are not...

What to do with partially boggy land?

I can't recommend enough that you find a permaculture course near you and do some learning. I did the very first diploma permaculture course in the UK with George Sobel, and Patrick Whitefield at Darlington in the eighties. Permaculture consultants will also travel to your site and advise what...

What to do with partially boggy land?

Humans seem to have an interest need to "improve " and manipulate land to their own ideas of what they think is "better." With all the projected building on green sites that is proposed, aswell as the cutting down of ancient woodlands for a few minutes saved on a rail journey that has now been...

What to do with partially boggy land?

Think about what inhabits wetlands. Ducks, geese, (eggs fetch good prices at farmers markets or local grocers.then there are gate sales.) With simple willow items such as tension trays and obelisks you have an income in a short space of time and minimal outlay. One of the best bits of advice is...

What to do with partially boggy land?

If you want to grow veg, raised beds on the least boggy areas are your best bet. Localy the council gave a bit of boggy ground for allotments, nothing grew, and everyone gave up. I suggested raised beds but got poo pooed...too much work. Silly realy, but thats folks for you. Look at...

What to do with partially boggy land?

Willow is your tree for boggy ground, grows fast and a good source of fire wood, or craft material, basket weaving, garden plant supports, sculptures, etc and a potential income. Good screening too.

    The Useful car

My old and knackered reliant became a wood store and greenhouse, as well as a dryer for herbs and apple slices. Still had many uses untill I was forced to get rid of it by the h/a. I miss it!

    Hand crafted things.

I like to make stuff, and wanted a chunky crochet hook to make a chunky scarf, and blanket.. As there are no suitable shops within 20 miles, and have made a vow not to order on the net unless its absolutely vital, I decided to make one The crochet is just a practice piece to see whether it needs...

    Swedish preparedness pamphlet

Yes, I'm a severe asthmatic. During covid, the local surgery refused to treat asthma attacks with a nebuliser, as they didn't want people breathing without masks in the surgery. I bought my own machine, and have a small supply of ventolin ampules, as ambulances can take half an hour or longer...

    Swedish preparedness pamphlet

Where I live, as soon as you have a power cut, Internet goes out at the same time. No back up at all. It won't come back online untill the power ones back on. Even then, it sometimes lags by half an hour or so.

    What did you buy today?

Just had to treat myself to this sweet little beauty. I only went into the shop for a small bottle of walnut oil for my carvings, about a fiver, and I ended up spending another £60 on this. l have oiled the sheath, which has darkened it, and it looks even better! The carving on the sheath...

    Swedish preparedness pamphlet

One topic here that so far as I can see has not realy been mentioned is civil unrest. We have seen a few riots of late, and the reasons are not discussed online for fear of persecution. Also, its a bit political, which is a no no here. We don't have to go into the politics of it, in fact I'd...
