    What kind of needle

I hoped that they sold needles they had made on site, or at least in the UK but their site says that they stock John James pebbles....those are needle cases of different types of needles....but those needles are made in China for Entaco...supposedly to JJ's specifications, then checked and...

    What kind of needle

So, a very long time ago I posted a thread of recommendations of needles that I would buy. I am known to be really fussy about the quality of my needles, and the thread was favourably received. Your thread had me look again for such needles on eBay, and lo and behold, for up came a set from...

    What kind of needle

Seriously, do you have eBay ? and if you do, search for your equivalent of Vintage needles....specify carpet ones....and it might surprise you what comes up :) I buy, and use, vintage needles. I have sewn since I was three years old, it's my total chill out; I hand sew. Modern needles are carp...

    Short Brim Boonies

Fishing tackle suppliers :) It's astonishing the stuff they have, and I found my own boonie there, and it's a short brim one. Mine's just OD though.

    What kind of needle

You can buy carpet needles, they are longish, very strong and not very sharp. They will sew without tearing fibres. I was about to offer to send you some and then realised that you're in Finland and can probably get them there easier than dealing with post and customs. They're easily available...

    Plant I.D

I'm surprised they've left it to grow and flower. It's an invasive weed.....I think it's technically an Invasive Alien Species.

    Mice in Van (again)

Mine did. A wee present, and looked so totally miffed to be told to take that out ! She did it, but she wasn't pleased about it. I think she brought it in to play with

    Tension Trays, ***Photo Heavy***

They are so very simple to make, and you can use other materials too. Dock stems....which are sort of waxy and don't taint if you use them for fish....Iris, reedmace, etc., Useful things too :)

    Tension Trays, ***Photo Heavy***

I made this thread years ago, but I tidied up the willows in the garden last week and I'm looking at the snash and wondering what to do with it. I minded this thread, but, y'know, useful though they might be, I thought surely there's something else....and I was on Pinterest looking for something...

    Ancient skills sinew cordage

If you type, Sinew, dog chew into google, then up will come everything from beef https://www.bettyandbutch.co.uk/products/beef-sinew-dog-chew?variant=40212219658334 to ostrich :) Some of the sites are a tad pretentious and vastly overpriced, but you can buy sinew quite easily at reasonable...

    Tengu and the Stuckie

Truly sorry to hear this; I too thought you were in the midst of total immersion in the Iron Age. You had been so looking forward to it all. How did you get home though ? surely you didn't drive with a stookie on ? and how long are you going to be so encumbered ? is there any chance to save the...

Activity / background on clothing terminology.

To us an anorak needs a hood. It's an Inuit jacket kind of thing. My Canadian great Aunt sent them over to us when we were children. Parka came from the same kind of folks but in Russia.

    Fresh bread!

My guts no longer tolerate gluten :sigh: It's one of life's great sadnesses, because good bread is a pleasure, it really is, and gluten free bread is dire. Good on you making your own bread, it looks lovely, it sounds brilliant and I'm sure it's going to be so tasty. Good bread, bit of...

Activity / background on clothing terminology.

A smock is a working garment. It can be a very fancy working garment showing the skill of the wife who made it, or it can be a very practical hard wearing piece of kit.....thus the army....but it's a working garment. Smocking is the gathering that makes loose fabric fit to shoulders and bodice...

How do warm blooded people cope

Some warm food inside you, and run about a bit, or do some really thorough stretching exercises before you go to bed. I find that if I'm warmed up before I get into my sleeping bag, then I can sleep. It doesn't work for me to get into it cold and hope I'll warm up. I find the hot water bottle...

What tinder to wrap around a ferro rod?

I make small tinder bundles. The cordage I use to tie them, and the birch bark that I use to enfold the bundle, all fluffs up well with the edge of my knife. That fluff is prefect spark catch. That said, I do like amadou as a spark catch. It'll even take the spark from flint and steel and let it...

What tinder to wrap around a ferro rod?

Those ferrocerium rods are reactive too....they 'rust' and rot if they're kept damp. So, wrapping them in tinder...in our climate ? I don't think that's a good idea.
