    Cutting and tidying pampas grass?

Sorry, cross posted with Mesquite :) Machete or billhook. I have a Martindale machete and it made short work of a neighbour's clump a few years ago. That stuff is tough though, I had to resharpen four or five times to get through it all. Watch your hands too, I ended up with festering scratches...

Found a 15+ year old tarp in the shed. How long do Tarps last?

That wee tarp came from Poundstretchers...it was literally a pound. Next door paid £16 and hers is already dead. Honestly, these days, unless you're buying from a company that will refund, etc., I think it's just your luck on stuff like this. Pretty sure it's mostly all made in China one way or...

Found a 15+ year old tarp in the shed. How long do Tarps last?

Depends on the tarp. If it was military grade then it'll have been UV stabilised. If it was intended for a lorry, or a boat, again, probably. If it was a cheapo thing just as a DIY cover up, it'll probably degrade pretty quickly after a couple of seasons weathering. Only one way to find out :)...

    What kind of needle

Tulip's are nice, and easily available now too. Shop around for prices though. My son bought me some. A thoughtful present :) However, looking for something else entirely this morning, I tripped across these....both are kind of specialist type needles, but the former are really strong, and the...

    Face Time

I like that :) My Dad had a Blackthorn walking stick. He'd cut it when out for a wander with his Dad fifty years before. It was a knarled dark thing, hard as iron, but it had the impression of faces up it, sort of hidden in the folds and the knots....and he found my stash of glass eyes for...

    MSR pots recall

Just been sent a link to a recall on MSR pots.....there must be hundreds if not thousands of them in use among us :sigh: https://www.msrgear.com/ie/pot-recall.html Having said that, it reads as though it's not so much a recall as a please get in touch and we'll send you a replacement handle...

BcUK Photograph of 2024 April Heat Vote

In all these years, and the calm organisation of it all is appreciated, I think your own clear unbiased and steady hand on things has made the whole competition a quiet pleasure....even if it's a somewhat frustrating competition as I try to choose just one or two.....

    Weather to come.......

We have had a beautiful May Day :D Just so lightly overcast that it took the glare out of the Sunshine, but warm and calm and bright. I made fire, just because I could, and brought in the Summer properly, but these folks, they really did bring in Summer :D...

Where do we come from - What are our backgrounds?

Do smells trigger things for you too ? My moses basket was made of seagrass. I remember lying in it looking up at the clouds, and being rocked gently, I can still hear the gentle slap of the water against the hull of the boat. My parents had lain the basket, with me in it, down on the burden...

Where do we come from - What are our backgrounds?

Before I could walk, on Sundays my Dad used to put me up on his shoulders and carry me across to the village across the river where my Grandparents lived. We used to stop off at the castle (less than quarter of a mile from where I live now) and he put me down on the grass....in those days the...

Where do we come from - What are our backgrounds?

I have memories of infancy too. I remember being small enough to toddle out of the house and watch the blackbird building her nest in our garden hedge....it was just at my eye level....I walked before I was a year old, and I remember the next year that I could see into the nest, and I brought...

Where do we come from - What are our backgrounds?

My Dad tied me to the clothes pole with the washing line too....to keep me off his tools while he built a boat in the back garden. He said that bairns ought to be born with a big ring in their back.....so you could hang them up where they could watch but not run amok. Years later I saw RM talk...

    Placing a Static

Up here the Planning Dept really don't want to end up in a snarl over something that could have been sorted out at the very beginning by folks just having a conversation. They're really not interested in having to involve lawyers. They're busy, but not so busy that they won't reply. The rules...

    Placing a Static

Sorry, that's a 'phone the local council planning dept and ask for help' kind of thing. The Council Planning Dept are surprisingly helpful. The other thing to do is to ask the local Councillor. Again, they're inclined to be helpful. And, yes, Scottish law is not English/Welsh law.

    Placing a Static

Keeping it dry and mould free is an issue. Decent foundations are essential. If you have electricity available, then a desiccant dehumidifier ( Meaco, Zambezi) is worth the money. It takes out moisture, moves the air and gives out gentle heat. It's a win/win.

Where to buy needles for a Winselmann Titan sewing machine?

Two other things that came to mind. Firstly, there's a big and well informed group of people who collect and use old sewing machines, and someone there will know and help. Pretty sure of that. https://www.victoriansweatshop.com/post/dbx1-needles-for-model-1213-style-machines-12x1-needles-8290835...

Where to buy needles for a Winselmann Titan sewing machine?

To me that looks like an Industrial sewing machine needle. That long groove is characteristic.....I don't know if modern ones will fit your old machine though, but it's another avenue to explore. Might be worth an email to someone like this company...
