    Green energy :D

Energy isn't 'one size fits all'. I don't need 240V when I'm camping, but something to charge a phone, or a torch, a radio or provide a decent light is a blessing :) Similarly at home, many items in common use do not require heavy power. The main domestic ones, cooker, washing machine, tumble...

It's very do-able to tether the upper end and just have the whole thing on spinners. Loose like he has is great for demos or for a quick set up.....besides if you use modern carbon fibre that's curled, it'll just fold down without tangle anyway. I know, I look for solutions not problems :)

    Green energy :D

It's a kite, well tethered ring of kites. They weigh almost nothing (I make kites) and yet they have an enormous lift. It's acting like a dynamo, and even a small trickle charge is a charge, especially on modern electronics. Phones, LED lights, that kind of thing...all done for something just...

Right now some of my washing is back in the machine because the wind tore it off the line.....we have wind and rain, but sunshine, just not a lot, and most definitely not a lot in Winter....but we do have wind :) even at night we have wind. And tides, regular as clockwork tides surging in and...

    Homestead fridge / root cellar.

Well the usual before folks had a fridge was a bucket of water and a teatowel over the top...the teatowel was placed so that it just and no more wicked up water....it actually works by evaporation to cool the contents of the bucket. Folks used it to keep bottles of milk cold and fresh. Butter...

Looking for a place that sells wool cloth near (ish) to me.

Maggie Stewart sells on eBay, as Maggies fab fabrics ? I'll find a link. I bought good linen from her for a fiver a metre. Usually re-enactors use Bernie the Bolt, Ann Laverick and Ali the Trader for linen and wools. There's a very good shop in Glasgow, Fabric Bazaar, they have a wide range...

We had just that; but the modern combi-boiler no longer required such storage, and the tanks were removed....cleared a lot of useable space in the loft, but I did sort of regret the lack of a cistern of clean water.

Did anyone go thirsty ? Did anyone have 'no' water ? We live in a civilized country, none of us lives so remote that there is no way to get supplies as necessary. It's scale again. Tide you over for a little while, and it'll be fine. Like power cuts :)

It's that prepping mindset again :) I have filters, camping use kind of thing, and I can purify water if necessary. I think there are two things to this topic though. Firstly is the Govt., and reasonably practical folks couple of litres 'just in case'. Secondly, is the all out stash and prep...

I think if one is of a Prepper (note uppercase :) ) mindset, then things like hatches in floors to allow access to the crawl space for storage, etc., become the norm. I watched one video a friend sent where the homeowner had strippd off the gyproc of his walls, and panels, with narrow shelves...

Under our stairs is where we hang coats, bags, shoes, there is no spare room. Kitchen cupboards are full and there's no spare room. Pantry likewise. Outside....we freeze and unfreeze in a constant up and down for several months of the year, so storing in a shed isn't on. A few bottles worth...

I have nowhere to store all that water. How do you find room ? and I'd need to multiply that by three too.

Clyde Nuclear Subs....and the prevailing winds mean that one strike there will carry poisoned air right across the central belt, and effectively take out ooooh, maybe 70% of the population......and folks wonder why we complained about Faslane :rolleyes2: Aye, couldn't make it up; it's reality.

Our water was beautiful, occasionally whisky coloured as the peat got through the filters when the moor flooded, but a few years back it suddenly started to taste horribly of chlorine....and it smells of chlorine too. I bought a drinking water filter kit that pumps the water through a charcoal...

    New family tent needed

I bought a tent from Argos twenty years ago...it was so good I bought another one when a family friend ended up 'borrowing' mine. It was a cheap as chips Pro Action one, I put it up, sprayed it with fabsil and let it dry. I did buy a cheap groundsheet to put down under the footprint of the...

I keep a decent pantry, I have a quiet stash of a few months worth of stuff like toilet rolls, kitchen towels, etc., in sealed polybags up the loft.....after lockdown, who doesn't ? I cannot concieve of having 'no' food in the house. Even just the most basic stuff like flour, oatmeal, etc., but...

What wildlife did you spot today?

Emptying the last Dalek shaped compost bin (huge things, nearly as tall as I am) and a foot from the bottom I'm suddenly swarmed with bumble bees. They've nested in the bottom of the centre core of dry-ish stuff  Pleased to see them, but just not there, iimmc ? In the end I used the...
