    Cheapest down coat?

A slight subject change now that I’ve ordered my jacket, but would anyone know of a decent quality merino wool base layer for a reasonable price, too? Just to save me making a second thread. About threads.

    Cheapest down coat?

Looks perfect, mate. Exactly what I’m after. Thanks very much.

    Cheapest down coat?

Hi, can anyone recommend a warm down coat that’s not extortionately expensive? It’s just to roll up and keep in my kit, so it doesn’t have to be ridiculously durable or anything, just a nice warm layer when needed. It doesn’t have to be down, I suppose, I just like how small they roll up and...

Suitable magnifying glass for fire starting?

I read that you need really intense sun for those to work. Is that wrong? I’ll definitely get one if you guys have tried and tested them.

Suitable magnifying glass for fire starting?

Perfect, cheers mate. I found an identical one on Amazon if anyone else is interested... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ajax-Scientific-Double-Convex-Bi-Convex-Spherical/dp/B00EPQ9SO4/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=50mm+glass+bushcraft+lense&qid=1605262828&sr=8-8

Suitable magnifying glass for fire starting?

Cheers everyone. It’s difficult to find a 40x magnification lens that’s 3-5” in diameter, and I’d like one that’s as effective as possible as we rarely get a full, sunny day.

Suitable magnifying glass for fire starting?

Hi, has anyone got a magnifying glass they’d recommend for fire starting? I’ve read that it’s very easy with some strength lenses and almost impossible with others. Any tried and tested ones you guys can recommend for my fire starting kit? Cheers.

How do I know where it’s OK to camp?

Thanks very much. As much as I know I won’t be a nuisance and I’ll tidy up after myself, the last thing I’d want is hassle from the landowner when I’m just trying to camp for a night. It really makes you envious of people like Joe Robinet who have the whole of Canada to camp freely and stuff...

How do I know where it’s OK to camp?

Much appreciated, cheers. I’m only planning on doing the odd overnight camp and taking my little boy along and stuff. Maybe a small bushbox fire, but I’d always tidy up after myself. I see a lot of people on Youtube camping fairly freely, and then when I look online I see a lot of horror...

How do I know where it’s OK to camp?

Cheers for both replies. Silly question, but how do you go from knowing the name of the wood/forest to finding the land owner and how to contact them?

How do I know where it’s OK to camp?

Is there a website or a book that lists where I can pitch a tent for the night? I’ve heard stories of disgruntled land owners turfing people out for pitching in their fields and woods. Is there a definitive way to know that you’re allowed to camp somewhere?

    New hobby

Hi everyone. I’ve probably done this backwards, as I’ve already asked for some advice about axes before finding this section. I’m mid-30s and I can’t see myself getting into golf, snooker, darts, etc, but I love being outdoors so I’m going to have a look at the camping/hiking/bushcraft route...

    Best brand of axe?

Sorry everyone, I made this thread and I’ve been flat out at work ever since. I’ve only just found the time to sit down and reply. As for ‘what I need the axe for’, it’ll just be a variety of camp needs. Chopping the odd small dead tree down, splitting logs, trimming small branches off tree...

    Best brand of axe?

Hi, I’ve got myself a few knives (carbon Garberg, TRC South Pole, and I just ordered the new Fallkniven F1 in Elmax), and now I’m going to get an axe or two for my kit. What’s the best brand? I like the look of the Granfors Bruks ones. I’d only want something 600-700mm long at the most, I...
