Welcome. Bushcraft is a huge topic. If you are looking for a good book to cover some of the basics then Ray Mears' "Bushcraft" is good, as it's written from a UK perspective.
I suppose I count as one of the "old guard". So here's my take on it, over the years my interest has ebbed and flowed. Life, and other passions take precedence sometimes. For four or five years I got ride of the internet altogether.
These days before I comment on a thread I tend to ask...
It was a bit of an experiment really, it's only been subjected to a little light drizzle and that beaded up well.
I suspect the canvas one will hold up better as it's a tighter weave and heavier fabric. The linen version is quite a coarse thread. That one may become my "about town" pack.
I've always fancied a Frost River Geologist pack but have always baulked at the price. I saw these on Varusteleka and thought I'd give them a go.

I ordered two and they sent one canvas and one...
On the subject of Gorkas, Survival Russia just posted a video on you tube
with a link to another Russian webstore and a discount code. If you haven't checked out his channel it's well worth a watch if you like the no nonsense woodsman kind of stuff.
I have the trousers from Varusteleka, and the quality is good. The price is a bit steep from them. Try https://grey-shop.ru I got an so/sposn gorka from them. The postage is a bit steep but the prices for the full suits is worth it.
Varusteleka is still my favourite shop though!
That looks great. I really like the steampunk aesthetic too. I kind of stumbled onto it when looking for trouser braces of all things (still the best way to hold your trousers up). I may have to steampunk some of my gear.
