    Folding knife suggestions ?

Interesting but I'd prefer a single bladed boar with a convex or flat grind. I keep considering reprofiling one of mine.

    One for the retro-heads

Mine turned up. Really good quality. The leather needed feeding and the hooks repainting but apart from that it was in really good nick. The shoulder straps are set quite wide apart, so if you have narrow shoulders it might not be the best fit. Looking forward to trying it out at the weekend.

    Bush hat suggestions?

I have a Varusteleka one in M05 camo, the medium should fit you fine. Mine's been washed repeatedly and sprayed with insect repellent and is still doing fine. I've just ordered a green one too.

    Casstrom Lars Falt Folder

For UK users I can't really see the point in lock knives anymore. You can't edc them so If you have a legitimate reason to carry you may as well carry a fixed blade for bushcrafty purposes.

Longer technical waterproof - walking / day to day

Not sure if it would be long enough but the craghoppers Kiwi long jacket is pretty good. Not super long but below "junk" level. Good waterproofing and reasonable breathability for a gentle wander and can be had for £50 if you hunt around. It's the only synthetic jacket that I have as I...

    Fjallraven smock number 1

Why not get a surplus British army windproof smock and unpick it for a pattern?

    The cost.

I got my first swanndri shirt mail order from the Survival Aids catalogue (anyone remember that). Far superior to the current Chinese made ones. I also had some fjallraven trousers before they became a fashion brand. The quality was ok but the fit was a bit strange so I sold them on. These...

    Question concerning Carinthia sleeping bags.

you'll not regret getting the M05 bag. It's one of those investment pieces of kit that you'll be using for years.

    TBS knife?

The jaakaripuukko is a great knife too. Being a lefty I wetformed a TBS multicarry sheath for mine, works really well. Most of the time I just carry the boar edc. I'm seldom using fire for warmth so I use a Trangia or solo stove for cooking. And less likely to get into trouble if I end up...

    Question concerning Carinthia sleeping bags.

I have the Finnish M05 bag as it has a bit more arm room. It's a brilliant bag and comes with a zip in cotton liner. I got mine from Varusteleka. I'm 6'0" and there's plenty of room for me with an inflatable pillow inside the bag. Oh, and welcome to the forums!

Change to the law on bird pest control

There you go. First hand knowledge on the corvid/lamb issue. We don't have a lot of sheep around here so I've not come across it.

Change to the law on bird pest control

I've always been a little dubious on the crows killing lambs thing. I think we need the general licence but reduce the number of species on it to invasive species and wood pigeons. I feel that applying for a specific licence for rooks is workable as you can monitor local population size...

    Circa 1955 Scouts Soft Pack

Haha. I've used them for summer overnighters. German folding kipmat and light wool blanket inside and the plashpalatka rolled up on the outside.

    Circa 1955 Scouts Soft Pack

Yes, webbing loops for bedroll, two on each side. If I recall correctly the y webbing had hooks to fit either the belt or to the pack directly so it could be used without the belt kit.

Change to the law on bird pest control

As the article says a bad time to do it. The pigeons will have a field day. It seems a bit short sighted that these dreamy armchair environmentalists "humane" methods of pest control are anything but. Say every farmer in the country uses bird scarers to drive off pigeons (and every other...

    Circa 1955 Scouts Soft Pack

20L is my guestimate, maybe 25L. That's the main pack, the pockets are quite generously sized, maybe 1.5L each. I got mine from Varusteleka without the straps but they sometimes have them with for a few quid extra (none in stock at the moment though).
