    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

:p hardly - I always went inside the sleeping bag bone dry and was cold on most nights...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

I really wonder how some of you do that: sleeping in a bivvy bag without a tarp and staying dry! After many nights of testing with different breathable waterproof bags (always breathing outside the bag of course) I have come to a rather sobering conclusion, revising my mild appreciation from...

Lightweight Rucksacks 30 to 50 litres

Since I am rather passionate about finding "the perfect" rucksack, too, here's my findings. I especially like alpine packs for bushcraft/allround purposes, because they are often built very sturdy yet lightweight due to minimalist design. I find load control straps very important for comfortable...

Free Compass App and other usefull free Outdoor Apps for Android Smartphones?

I can wholeheartedly recommend Mapy.cz. The best app I have found so far. Great OSM maps with altitude layer, all free to download, so it works independently from reception. You can simply download the maps for your region and you have a detailed map with you, wherever you go. Also great in...

    Low Budget Equipment 2019

One might also consider walking barefoot. :) Sounds like a joke maybe, but honestly: isn't walking barefoot the ultimate bushcraft footwear? You experience the natural world way more intensely (obviously via your feet, but also because you have to watch out for thorns etc.), stalking becomes...

    THE OPINEL TRICK

Thanks for your advice, it is much appreciated! And it really solved my problem: the savoy knock does the job for me! Funny that I didn’t think of that myself.

    THE OPINEL TRICK

Thanks for your advice! To be more precise: The blade is stuck in the closed position, the locking ring has nothing to do with it, and opening and closing are not helping either. Nor did oiling it help anything...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Strange to think, how our experiences differ! Just to be clear: "all weathers, no issues" refers to the use of bivvy bags without a tarp? Only yesterday night I slept outside in rather intense morning dew on a wooden plattform. The wood itself stayed dry, but the dew formed on my bivvy bag in...

    THE OPINEL TRICK

Hey folks, Did any of you ever experience the blade jamming in locked position ? I have this problem frequently both with my Carbone and 2 INOX Versions. It is sometimes jammed so tightly that I cannot open it by hand and have to use my leatherman. Because of that, I treated the handle of one...

    Low Budget Full Tang Knife?

He said he wanted an indestructible beginners’ knife and the Scandinavian rat tags weren’t robust enough. While that may be true for the standard Mora Companion design, is certainly isn’t for all other models. That’s all I wanted to point out. If it was a personal preference, than that’s a...

    Low Budget Full Tang Knife?

@Erbswurst : to support my argument, that the „heavy duty“ rat tails will withstand just as much abuse as any fulltang, watch this video:

    Low Budget Full Tang Knife?

and right you are. I just wanted to point out that the rat tang in the "heavy duty" version is almost as long as a full tang, and therefore will be robust enough for @Erbswurst.

    Low Budget Full Tang Knife?

Are you aware that Mora offer a “heavy duty” version of the companion? Almost full tang, ridiculously cheap, easy to sharpen and pretty lightweight.

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Yes I did. My sleeping bag and my two bivvy bags were all the "regular" lenghts. The first bivvy was way too short, the second one now is o.k. but still a bit shorter than the sleeping bag. Anyway, strange how the production seems to vary so much.

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Hi everybody! I have some news to share with you! After @Erbswurst brought up the idea of a production fault in my Snugpak bivvy again, I thought I might give it a try and ordered a new one. Here's my findings! The old one: - labeled "coyote", was sort of mint-greenish - weighed 430 g instead...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

I never had any real issues with condensation in a bivvy bag under a tarp (or without it in dry conditions) either. Only a damp climate inside. It gets „uncomfortable“ when used directly in rain. But then again what do you need the „waterproofness“ for (with its associated weight...) if you...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Good points, and I absolutely agree with you. Maybe I should rephrase my thoughts: "Why carry a heavy waterproof bivvy bag instead of a lightweight waterresistant bivvy bag (such as the options @Tiley pointed out) when those of the first kind only perform well in conjunction with a tarp?" I...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Sorry again. I don't breathe inside, of course, always outside the bivvy bag. And I do wear more or less the exact clothing you described. Plus, I slept in it at temperatures around freezing on a very thin (150g) foam mat and I was very cold indeed. So I wore my entire clothing (which was dry in...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Well, I use the SF 1 sleeping bag, too, so the sleeping bag should not be the problem ;). As said, my first intuition was the same ("production fault"). Yet as there was no leakage or other visible irregularity, and after having the very same experience with many different bags, I have a hard...

    Bivvy Bags...worth it?

Hi everyone. I have been pondering and testing the use of bivvy bags quite a lot, lately. Now I thought I'd share my ideas with you and hear what you have to say about it. For many years now my standard setup for spring to autumn- use has been: evazote foam mat, synthetic sleeping bag/quilt...
