SPAM and other foods - any hate? :)

Theres not much i dont like, but stuff i would be happy to never see again; Tinned meatballs, tinned ravioli, mushy peas, cottage cheese, pigs feet, jellied eels. Cold baked beans make me heave. Anything loaded with raw tomatos, it just makes everything watery.

    Graded surplus mess kits

How big of a pot are you talking about? You might be better off looking at some of the MSR alpine pots than a mess kit.

    snugpak quality?

Most of snugpaks recent stuff has been very poor imo, the new softies they came out with are shocking both in the design and general quality side. The bag you mentioned isnt made in the UK, only some of their jackets are sleeping bags are as far as i know, i would avoid it and just get...

    OD Bergen Hip Strap

A hippo pad was never meant for a bergen, they're for wearing under belt kit to stop the pouches rubbing your skin raw. They didn't work well, a bit of roll mat cut up worked better, they don't work like a proper hip belt.

    OD Bergen Hip Strap

Jayjays of brecon can add a strap on if you like. The issue bergen is designed to work with belt kit, which acts as a hip pad when the bergen is on, i've vut the daft strap off that came on mine since there's no need for it. The only changes i've had done is the straps widened and extra...

    hexi stove toast?

Yes and no, You need to accept the limitations on these stoves, they're best suited to heating water and warming already cooked food really and the issued system is designed around those ideas, although with enough tablets you could cook something but there are much better stoves for that...

    Begginers Stuck

Was it a video by Joe Robinet? i've watched a few of his youtube vids and he seems down to earth with what he shows. The best way to get into stuff like that is to get a few friends, a tent, some decent clothes, some food etc.. and get out there. Start easy with a night, build it up from there...

    hexi stove toast?

The most i ever 'cooked' on hexy was heating up rat packs and using the water for a brew. You could taste the stuff in the tea/coffee, i wouldn't bother using it for toast. The new firedragon is much better imo.

    Hot weather bushcrafting

I use dioralyte dissolved into a bottle of water if i feel a bit of heatstroke coming on. I've found that although it helps you still need to cool down and rest in some shade pretty quick, water will only do so much. A bit of ibuprofen at the starts helps for me to. You should be getting...

What IS the best bushcraft Jacket?

Baselayer, lightweight fleece, windproof - This does me fine for hiking well into the negative numbers in this country. I prefer something like a running windproof which have a mesh back panel where a daysack sits, helps keep the sweat down. Perhaps a more substantial smock if its for a few...

    Hot weather bushcrafting

Shorts and t-shirts. Bit of suncream, Plenty of water and take breaks in the shade now and then. Don't over complicate it. I loose my appetite in the heat so i normally have smaller meals, usually i'll make up something like a chicken salad wrap, cereal bar and packet or fruit & nut before...

layering; ancient and modern how is it done?

The kits chnaged, the The kits changed for the better, but the principles are the same. Issue kits is fine but there are better civvy alternatives imo, Sticking with issue kit what i normally wear in this weather is the ubac on top, then combats with underarmour keks on the legs, remember...

    MTP Smock, water beading.

No more windproof than the others with the mesh imo, just more practical. They're 50/50

    Best bargain watches?

Anything digital from casio or timex will see you right. If you want something a bit more fancy then look into a divers watch by seiko or citizen.

    Buying First Aid kit components

Best thing to stop chaffing between the legs is to buy a cheap-ish pair of under armor like longjohns and then cut the part below the knees off. You can also get the proper long under armor boxer shorts for a bit more. Sports direct and costco sell them too.
